stripes.

I'm almost positive that everyone that has stripes on their car, they'd want the stripes painted on. I too would like that, but don't have the spare cash atm ($1,000) to have them painted on. But I did order the vinyl stripes from the dealer. Should I even let them put them on? Because within the next 6 months I'm going to have them painted on, but I really love the look of black stripes on the IOM. Would it hurt the paint or anything if I had them put on now, and took off by my body shop, and have stripes painted on afterwords? Or would it matter if I got them painted on in the next 6 months? I'm sure it would be best to go ahead and have them painted on while the car is still new.

Ugh I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say lol.

I am having mine painted on right after I get my car. It will not hurt the paint to have them put on. The body shop will have to sand the clear down anyway. I say put them on and see if you really like them and maybe you will have something different in mind by the time you can afford them. I am getting custom stripes put on mine. Something I am sure no one has. I will post pics after I get them done.

I ordered rallys on mine till I figure out just how I would like to have them painted on. There are so many new ideas coming up here on the forum I'd prefer a little time before I commit, once painted they are on for good.

I don't recommend doing this purely from a money standpoint. I think you will be able to afford painted stripes sooner if you don't order the factory stripes. The factory stripes are ~$500 so if it will cost ~$1000 to paint custom stripes on, that's only a $500 difference. If you order factory stripes, drive around for a few months, and then paint custom stripes you basically end up losing that $500 for the factory stripes. I would say just drive around with no stripes until you have the money, trust me, IOM looks great without stripes too.

I would also recommend taking some pictures to a body shop and getting a quote for the stripes before you have your car so you have a ballpark price for the stripes. My shop only charged me $1000 but some others on this site have been paying up to $3000.

yea, this real nice dude has been doing stuff like that for my dad, and sister for years. Sister had to get her rear quarter panel painted on her mustang, and got stripes on too. said he'd paint pretty much any double stripes for 1k. and that was for a mustang over the roof, so he might do them a bit cheaper for me idk though. thx for the input, I'll call the dealer first thing in the morning to cancel the stripes.

Bottom line if your 100% certain you want painted ones, then vinyl seems like a huge waste of cash to me.
