Thumbs up Straight Pipe v.s. Flomaster 10 Series

On a Camaro 2SS. Which one is louder? I am gonna put on a magnaflow x-pipe for sure. But I heard flowmaster 10 series sounds better than straight pipe but straight pipes are noticeably louder.

Which one is louder could end up being in the opinion of the cop listening to it.

"Flowmaster Super 10 series mufflers are intended only for off-road or race applications".

Headers, no cats, and Flowmaster AT (40-series) are plenty loud without sounding ridiculous. There is a line you cross where "loud" doesn't sound good, or powerful. It's just loud.

In my opinion, it is not just about being LOUD, but having a good TONE / NOTE to the exhaust.

Everyone has different taste as to what sounds better. Maybe listen to sound clips with good headphones / find other peoples exhaust setups to listen to in person.

Good point, loud doesn't mean fast. In fact, the louder the car the slower it probably is. Loud compensates for inadequacy.

Ok I know BUT THAT IS WHAT I WANT. Anyways in Missouri cops aren't strict and I'm not gonna spend $1000 on exhaust system and headers yet.

So which is louder and which sounds better. Flowmaster 10 series or straight pipes. And I have heard straight pipes and they were not as loud as I expected even.

Odds are your flowmaster will not be any "LOUDER" than straight pipes. Think about it. Mufflers will mostly just change the tone / note mostly.

If you really want louder than straight pipes, you need to delete cats/ add high flow cats and /or go with headers.

As those cats / really quiet it down regardless of what you do after them.

Yea I know open headers and no mufflers are the loudest, but I'm gonna go with this inexpensive route first and see how I like it.

If you don't have warranty... you can cheaply gut / delete cats and muffler and it would probably sound pretty good and really help with the volume. Personally if I have a warranty I'd not mess w/ cats at the moment.

I doubt the flowmaster 10s would quiet it down much vs no muffler and would probably have a good tone to it.

Hell just deleting / gutting the cats w/ stock muffler/exhaust would probably make a BIG diff.

Either way you have some affordable options and you can always change it later if you choose to / have the money.

I did this research, and from what I understood high flow cats should NOT void your warranty, and would help w/ sound volume. But I doubt they are cheap.

If this is an option for you, I would also do your own research / verify at dealer first just to cover yourself.

I ended up getting the ATAK catback and am happy, but it did cost an arm and a leg :( Not crazy loud, but it definitely sounds worlds better than stock. I haven't gotten crazy on it, but I am positive it will really sound good at higher RPM.

It was a nice compromise as I can still enjoy my stereo fairly well.

I drive a full bolt-on cammed 99 z/28 that has a off road y-pipe and a slp loud mouth exhaust(which means no muffler). After adding a 10 series muffler it's still super loud when I'm wide open but now it's A LOT deeper and has a much better sound quality then it did before. Also look on eBay for the knock off brand one chambers there the exact same muffler only without the name and cost less so you might wanna try those. If you really want to be LOUD then I would just leave your stock cat back on and buy a set of cutouts. It's quite when you want and obnoxious when you want so it's a win/win IMO. Bty if you want pm me your number and I can send you a video of how loud my car is with the one chambers.

That's because the stock manifolds and cats suck up all the sound. Try headers and straight pipe, that's just stupid loud.
