Reminder when changing oil . . . Lesson learned

Just thought worthwhile of a reminder as I was Dumb@ss today and when changing my oil I had the car pulled up on the race ramps, all my tools gathered, some cardboard down, oil drain pan down ........ Then removed the drain plug.......and the morning went to hell. Forgot to open the valve on the oil drain catch pan/bucket and ended up with about 4 quarts of old oil on the concrete garage floor before getting it open.

Told my 5-year old daughter ...... Let this be an example of when you are trying to do something quickly and not paying complete attention I usually results in it taking 10 times longer. Was quite a pain trying to get all of that off the garage floor.

Sucks man.
I have dropped the drain plug into the pan and it always seems to fine the hole and plug it. Luckily I can usually grab it before it over flows.

I will share one with you lol

I went to bleed my clutch, put a hose in a water bottle as my catch can. Worked great till I took it off the clutch bleeder valve. It started spraying brake fluid all over me, I neglected to make room for the bottle to breath, so the whole time I was bleeding the clutch it was pressurizing the bottle. Lol

Hence why I don't use those types of containers to collect my old oil.
Instead, I use one of those large oil container jugs with a traditional cap. I open it up and stick a giant funnel on the top of it. Oil comes out and directly into there. I also put a shallow tub next to it to catch leftover oil drips when the flow slows, changes direction, and drips slowly.

Great thing is, since it is a jug with a cap, there is no risk of plugging up and transport is clean and easy since the oil is all contained within and sealed with a plastic cap.
