Axel Back vs. Cat Back
Noob here...
What is the difference, besides a whole bunch of cash, between these two? I know what they are I am just curious about performance etc. |

If you are truely concerned about performance go with a Cat Back Vs. the Axel Back, but if you are just going for a more aggresive sound and dont want to spend a ton of money, an axel-back is all you really need.

Axel back is just for sound (and looks...good to get rid of those big coffee cans). A good cat back will get you a couple of hp...not much though. Any gains are due to the good x-pipe most cat-backs have.
For big power gains (on the exhaust end), you have to go w/ LT headers and/or hi-flow cats (or no cats).

The price differences don't "have" to be a ton. You can definitely pay alot if you want to, but there are many excellent systems for well under 1000$.
Plus if you bundle a few other mods, you might find your local shop might work with you even more. |

Axle backs I typically tell customers are purely for sound. Sure there might be a slight performance difference, but for N/A cars it's negligible, so I would only listen for sound when you year youtube videos.
When it comes to catback systems, you'll get more power out of them, and typically for customers I would say look at the power gains, and the sound as well, which typically for most systems would be louder than an axle back of course. |

But to the OP's original question, cat-back is for power and axle back is for sound. Don't expect too much power from the cat back though! Good cat backs can be found for around $900. I'm currently looking at a few.
