Eng. comp.light

Did I miss something when ordering. My daughters 2LT/RS has no eng. comp. light. Does anybody else have one. Or was it not offered?

Maybe I'm an idiot but whats an eng. comp. light. ?

There are 2 service vehicle lights, one that says "service vehicle" for minor stuff and another that is a little picture of an engine and lights up with you have a real problem (like a misfire or worse.)

I think he means engine compartment light. If I remember correctly none of the cars have one.

None of the cars have one. I noticed that the other night. I'm adding engine compartment lights today.

Another cost cutting measure. They stopped installing them on 2007 Corvette's and up too, hell they also eliminated the lock on the consol lid.

hell they don't even have a key lock on the trunk or passenger side door anymore! (my vette didnt have the passenger key lock either and that was in 2000)

I havent tried it yet but on the Vette if you stick the key in the door and turn it right 3 times fast it pops the trunk, I bet the Camaro does this too.

That said any car I ever had that had one either the bulb burnt out fast, or the switch broke easily (leaving it stuck on or off). I never bothered to fix it on my vette.

Gee, isn't a little easier to press the trunk release button on your key??

I think the mechanism is electric anyways. The only way to open it without power is to climb through and use the Shunt escape.

You can mod in some LED pods.

I agree with the cost cutting. Look at Vette it's so expensive the common family can't afford one anymore.

Even Camaro LS is pushing it and are going for 5-10 grand more than 2010 base Mustangs. So GM has to do whatever they can to keep the prices down. And in the middle of a severe recession none the less.

Sorry Rogue, I couldn't resist a poke in the ribs!

Anyway, most recent model year cars regardless of brand don't have Passenger side key door lock. Likewise, most recent cars are doing away with the Hardware trunk lock also.

In light of the cost factors and weight constraints everyone is looking at to get better gas mileage, this really shouldn't come as a surprise.

Regardless of how you feel about the weight of he new Camaro, this is one of the things that is looked at closely. every pound they can shave off that isn't needed, is another plus in the mileage department.

As an example, take a look at the trim piece around the exterior of your windshield. ..... Oh, wait a minute, there isn't one any more. Weight and cost savings at work here too.

Much like the Power windows versus mechanical regulators argument. even there is a place for weight savings.

I like it better without that windshield trim. Plus its 1 less thing to have to tape off when waxing!
