FYI: If you ever get locked out of your car...without onstar..

Alright I've seen a few threads off and on of people getting locked out of their cars. Well, if you don't have Onstar they will not unlock the car nor let you start a subscription. So what do you do?

GM roadside can't open your car (yea they made them but don't know how to get in them ). So call up a lock smith and have them come out ($150-$200). MAKE SURE THEY USE A LOCK PICK. Don't let them mess with your car with the metal jimmy thing...they MUST use the lock pick due to how out windows are made.

Keep the receipt, mail the receipt to GM Roadside Assistance, they will send you a check for the cost of the locksmith. Problem solved

P.S. Being a locksmith must be one heck of a well paying job. I had this problem happen to me. I called the guy (he just works out of his house but insured me he knew what he was doing) and he came out. Stuck the lock pick in the door and had it opened in less than 5 minutes. Charged me $175

He said he unlocks 2-7 cars a day 7 days a week. So $350-$1200 a week with 4 hours worth of actual work?

I mean I will say his van was filled with lock smith stuff...he could cut keys in his van. I highly doubt that stuff is cheap and you need to be specially certified (those tools in the wrong hands...)

As long as they send a quality locksmith and not some tow truck driver.

My dad was a locksmith. They make great money but the hours suck!! Just think about people calling you at all hours of the night and day, rain, shine, snow, etc.

I had to get Pop A Lock to open my Camaro about a year and a half ago. They used a thin rod with a 90 degree bend on the end. It had to go in an exact spot in the door outside the glass. They have a schematic in a book that shows just where to go. It still took him about ten minutes for $40.

I keep one in the trunk of the car. Can't tell you how many times I have used it for the people at work.
