DefenderWorx or anyone who knows install...

Ok well apparently I am an idiot...having problems installing the Black Fuel Door Cover. Do we have a picture of the inside of the fuel door after installation? I had to shave down part of the locking clip in order to install the metal clip which was not a big deal but the metal lock plate that extends out in front of the spring is in the way ->

Problem 2...when I install the new fuel door I cannot turn the lock because a part of the fuel door lever is butted directly up against it which does not allow the door to be fully installed--->

I am assuming at this point this is operator error on my part. Can anyone who has installed this fuel door (which is absolutely beautifiul by the way) give me some pointers as to what I may be doing wrong?

I had the door installed yesterday by a body shop I've used before. The installer said the clip is tricky as the stock button which pops the stock fuel door open/close doesn't leave much room for the latch to close. Locking the door requires a careful turn of the key & I will be sure to open/close the door gong forward instead of relying on gas station attendant.

I will post pictures of my install in AM for you - see my post above.

Here's the pictures of the defenderworx brushed aluminum fuel door on my SIM - its rainy here in NJ this morning so these are taken in my garage with natural light (the flash was creating too many shadows) - I hope they help.

The door does stick out a bit on the key side as you'll see in the first picture, not too noticeable if you step back but its not flush. I think most pictures I've seen of the door have been from the right as the last picture which from that angle make it appear flush.

As I said in my previous post - opening/closing the door requires a careful turn of the key to get the latch to catch - I did it on the first try at the body shop and its OK for me.

Here's the pictures of the door on the arm - as you'll see you need to cut off the existing tab to allow the latch to swing up & down. Sorry the pictures aren't clearer - I haven't figured out the macro setting on the digital camera but these should help you see that the tab is removed.

Also attached are the instructions defenderworx posted in their "Products Photos" section - I had to email them as the instructions were not in the package & they pointed me to where I could find them on the website.

Good luck...

No problem GRM RPR - defenderworx should have the instructions on both the product pictures and the installed pictures. I mentioned this to Tim at autoaccessories on ebay and he said they'd make it clearer where to find the instructions for future customers.

Good luck with the install - post a finished picture if you can...

BTW - I got the brushed aluminum "Camaro" engraved door sills from defenderworx - they're a work of art and IMO higher quality that the "Chevrolet" door sills offered for not much less than the defenderworx product.

I am also waiting on their Gill Louver inserts - not the curved ones but the ones with the top/bottom flares - I'll be ordering those in brushed aluminum as well.

I installed mine this weekend and ran into thesame problem with it sticking out slightly on the key side. I was able to get it to stay flush my cutting off the green plunger used to open thestock fuel door. It's the plunger that pushes the door slightly open on the key side. My door now sits perfectly flush and looks great!

Thanks Doc - I'll look at it - as I recall the shop that installed my fuel door adhered the clip to the plunger so I might be creating another issue to fix but I'll see... good catch.

The latch can be adhered to the plunger assembly, the part the pushes the door out is the actual plunger itself. It's the small green plastic piece under the black rubber plunger "boot". I'm not sure how anything could be attached directly to the plunger?

Thanks - my concern is that when the shop adhered the clip the glue seeped onto the plunger so if I go to remove it the clip may come off - I will check - thanks.

DefenderWorx Locking Cover Install Questions

Hi Y'all: I just ordered the black cover and have been looking over the installation tips. I also got the pdf "install" file from Defenderworx site. Thanks for posting all the pictures here, much appreciated.

I can't tell why the new cover uses tape to hold the plunger in place. Is this to go "above and beyond" the original press fit or does prying the plunger assembly out change the plunger so the original press fit is no longer secure? Do you think the tape is adequate?

Doc: I had already decided that I would look at cutting off the green plunger to try to get it to sit flush and would like to know how cutting off the plunger tip affects the opening. Does the plunger still do anything after installing the new cover or is it not needed anyway?

TJD24, it looks like you did cut off the green plunger but your cover is still not flush, true or am I just not seeing it clearly? Did the glue affect it?

Thanks for any help or tips you can provide. It is a little tough since both my car and cap are on order :-(. :upset: But figuring out the install gives me something to do in the meantime! :-).

Plunger is still there just pushed in. I can live with the slight raise in the door...
