JANNETTY RACING USING THE ZL-1 FOR WHAT IS WAS DESIGNED FOR WOW!!!

Those of you who own a ZL-1, Join a Club Make arrangements, do what ever is necessary to get to a road coarse, take a driving class and use this car for what it was designed for.

I have been drag racing for 32 Years and often wondered what I was missing, I had thought about it many times when I owned my 2000 Trans Am but never made the commitment to do it.

When I bought the ZL-1 I Made the commitment to get to a road coarse.

I don't know how it works at other road coarses but you just don't show up and buy a ticket, you have to go through the proper channels, Join a club, pay your dues, and take a driving Class, and a Driving instructor rides along with a helmet communicator.

I just spent Friday 14th at Limerock Park in CT. the schedule extremely organized, Safety is Paramount for everyone involved.

Tech 7:00-9:00 Drivers meeting 9:00 am Class at 9:30-10:15 First session 10:40_11:00 class 11:30-12:15 Second session 12:40-1:00 Third session 2:40-3:00 Fourth session 4:40-5:00.

With Proper instruction and 80 minutes out on the coarse it is amazing how fast I picked up the skills necessary to get around the coarse smoothly.

I did get airborne sideways once over the uphill but recovered nicely.

I have to tell you that if your not using your ZL-1 For what it was designed for your Missing Out Big Time.

The Experience is something that can't be explained here in Text.

The adrenaline of running corners at speeds of 60-80 MPH with the confidence the ZL-1 Provides is Unexplainable.

I plan to do this again in the Fall.

My car came with Silver wheels, I know know what it looks like with Black Wheels on it

My 75 RWHP tune package is now Track tested and Proven reliable.

Ted

VIR is absolutely my favorite track. It's especially kind to heavy cars as you have two long straights to let her run. First time there, ALWAYS get an instructor. It's the best money you'll ever spend. It took me two days and 9 sessions to get solo qualified to run there with Chin Motorsports. My old car put down 643rwhp and weighed 4,444 pounds with me and fuel. She was a handful to be sure and hot 150+ mph on the straight always.

Anyone want to trade a slightly used convertible for a coupe?

LOL @ Jaimie and here's my dig... Only +75...

Great write-up and glad you got out and had some fun with it. Our club purchased Auto X timing equipment and have only used it a couple of times but it's a total blast.

Road coarse is definitely on my list of things to do soon.

I attended a 2 day HPDE with F-body.org in Memphis years ago (2005 or 2006?).

I often tell people it's the most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on.

The track in Memphis is under new management and they are repaving the entire road course. I can't wait to get out there again!

As said above, do it - you won't regret it.

I agree with Ted, you have to try a road course and do a auto cross event. Once you do you will be hooked. After the 1st lap ( hot tires ) you will amazed what these cars can do. A race day at a road course is non stop fun. I have always enjoyed drag racing, but there is a lot of wait time throughout the day. Chevrolet did such a great job in the refinement of the ZL1, you have to use it for what it was intended for. Get out there and get some seat time and enjoy.......Jerry

Sorry to disagree with you Ted, but you are wrong. You do not need a ZL1 to have the most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on! You do not even need a 1LE for this! I have had my SS at both Road America and the Autobahn CC driving at HPDEs. It is truly amazing, fun and exciting.
As they say at the road course tracks, fast cars are for drag racing, fast drivers are for road courses.
