help after vararam install please!
Hi all, Im sure this is just completely coincidental and just bad luck but I thought I would get you guys too weigh in on this and se what you think. I had just received my vararam intake and borla cat back exhaust last week after anxiously waiting for it for a week. Friday night I installed the vararam intake and took it out for a light drive to relearn the ecm to the new flow rate. When I returned home as I was pulling in my garage I could hear a squeak very much like a drive belt would when it goes bad.
I work at a gm dealer in the bodyshop and was planning on bringin my car in on Saturday to install my cat back exhaust and since it only has 6900km on it warranty would cover it. after I finished the exhaust I asked one of the mechanics too help me check for exhaust leaks and as we were under the car it started squeaking again but not from the belts, its coming from the bellhousing. I left it for the weekend so as not to cause any further damage and they inspected it today and said they think its the torque converter? no shrapnel in the pan..... so any ideas? can a torque converter squeak like a belt would? Trans guy says hes never seen this before. now... can it be the vararam in any way? I doubt it but it just seems too coincidental and like I said the car is like brand new and I baby it

No idea, are your radiator brackets tight? Doesn't seem related to the Vararam . . . . hope you get it fixed!

Mine did that. I took it in 3 times and the dealer figured it wasn't getting enough air idling. I got a RX breather cap and it went away.

That's exactly what it was. when I suggested to the trans guy this may be a solution he flat out said no way that's a bearing noise. we had nothing to lose so we gave it a shot. let it warm up and once it started squaking we pulled the vararam breather off. Instantly you could hear a huge rush of air and the squeaking stopped. so, thanks very much backbaconrules you saved me a lot of time and grief with this problem!

So if you pull the breather off, or maybe replace it with a higher flow one, will it make any more power?

Same thing happened to me the squeak only occurred at idle not while driving at any speed, or reving the engine. Tracy at Rx told me I needed a breather, bought it put it on and boom problem was gone Good you found the fix quickly
