The water box....
so im currently waiting for my set of Drag radials to arrive but once they do im going to need the do's and dont's of the water box. as of now i just drive around it. i was told to stay away if you are running regular street tires.
sooooo do you guys drive straight through it or do you drive around it and then back into it? i would think going through it would be counter intuitive since the front tires will pick up all that water and drag it out of the box and youre in the same situation as if someone went through it with regular street tires. anyone care to shed some insight? |

I always go around it. The water on your front tires will still track onto the staging area, affecting your rear tires.
Back up into the water box, do a good burnout to get your tires nice and sticky, and your ready! |

thats what i was thinking. but i always see people drive through it and always thought it was counter productive since they're tracking water in

It depends upon how far the water box is from the starting line. If there is a long distance, I drive straight through. If it is tight distance, I try to go around and back into the box. The workers sometimes give you the "stink eye" for the back in technique but who cares.

Always go around unless you have skinnies up front. Otherwise your front tires will be wet and that's not good for you and the people behind you.

Do you guys heat them in the box or get em wet and then pull out and heat them up outside?

I will usually let the guy back me in, though once in a while I'll just pop my door open and do it myself, old habit.
I tend to put the tires in the front edge of the water box to do it, and stay in one spot and then burn out of the box a little. For Nitto 555R's I've run them between 20 and 25 psi cold, and my first burnout is my longest one.

You don't need the waterbox at all for a DR. Just back up to the point where the pavement is wet and heat them up and roll out to the line.
