Arrow NHTSA may mandate amber turn signals

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/02/r...-turn-signals/
Quote:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Association thinks it is, after finding that amber lights are 5.3% more effective at preventing crashes than the red blinkers. NHTSA came to that conclusion after comparing crash data of vehicles that switched from one color to another.
it might not always look good, but it's a small sacrifice to make if it helps prevent accidents. Having lived in Europe where all cars have amber lights, I think it really makes a difference.

Would this be required in California? No one uses their turn signal here in the first place, so I hardly see how changing the color would prevent a crash.

5.3% more effective?

why not try doing something that would actually do something. like stricter requirements for gaining a drivers license

5.3%, eh? are we sure that that wasn't just the difference between different people and different lighting situations? seems a little silly to me, but whatever... I can remove and replace with red lenses

I have to study for months and pass 3 extremely difficult exams to be licensed to sell financial products, but we'll let just avbout any yahoo drive a two ton missile of death at 60 mph. Makes no sense.

Exactly.

What difference would it make it no one uses their turn signals anyway?

In the land where a cop will turn on the lights and sirens just to get past a red light because the 711 is right across the street.

omg yes

half of the time when im driving a DB pulls right in front of me without any warning

If America Had Laws, and stricter requirements like Germany, we would have less accidents and smarter drivers

But i guess its to late now:(

Have you ever seen California pass up an opportunity to regulate the hell out of something?

I honestly wouldn't mind this one bit. To me, in certain cases it looks better, and they are quite a bit brighter to me. Then again, thats just me.
