Urgent help. Bolt broke
I was reinstalling my intake manifold after painting it and when I went to torque the bolts on two broke. So now two bolts are stuck in my engine I've tried extracting them with a extract kit from Home Depot the tools just broke. Can anybody help me out I need them out and I feel like I've tried everything besides taking it to a shop.

What ever you do don't screw up your heads, this got good reviews on Amazon Alden 8440P Pro Grabit Broken Bolt and Damaged Screw Extractor 4 Piece Kit. I have this kit and it has worked good for me, you'll have to figure out if it's for you.
As I said don't screw up, sometimes you have bite the bullet and take to a professional ......I understand it will need to be towed there.

Something like that happened to me, I was taking out my hurst paddle shifters off the back of my wheel and stripped the hole, what a mess that was lol I know how you feel. I got no real advise other then take it to a shop or you can also look at adds on craigslist or kijiji for handy men that know how to fix this problem. Won't cost you too much if you can find one. Best of luck and don't worry, it might be stressful now but soon you'll get it fixed and laugh about.
Also pictures would be nice so everybody could get a better idea of what you're dealing with.

Just out of curiosity, did you tighten them with a torque wrench to the reccomended torque, or did you just tighten them.
If they were torqued to the proper torque, they should never break. now that they have broken, it all depends on where along the length of the bolt they broke. |

Don't have any pics really because I put everything back together with just the two bolts instead of the 4. I can see the bolts they are not that far down in there it's cut off at the thread of the bolt but I can see the bolt. I torqued it to 18ib like recommended and it broke twice so if I get it out I will not be torquing them in this time. I know it's recommended but a shop said its not needed all the time. How would I find some one on craiglist? What kind of shop do I go to?

Either a better kit to remove them or a reputable lsx shop so they don't jack anything up worse. No way those bolts should be breaking at only 18ft lbs. You have a harbor freight wrench or one that is seriously off.

Everything depends on how much bolt is left sticking up or is it broke below the surface of the block. Don't take any chances getting it out yourself if you've already tried. Sometimes heat will help if it's applied in the right way. Sometimes and easy-out does the trick. sometimes a nut can be welded to the end of the bolt and backed out using a socket, but regardless, it's just not worth taking a chance and ruining the block. Take it to a professional. You'll be glad you did. |

Post the question in your Regional Forums and see if someone can help, just a thought. Good luck.

If you take the manifold back off and can see enough of the broken bolts above the block you should not be too bad off.
Did you maybe confuse the English/metric settings?
