Unhappy Lawnmower threw a rock into the side of the car, QUESTIONS...

Long story short a mower threw a rock right behind the drivers side window glass and made a nice chip in the paint with a couple of scratches. I know the guy who was doing the mowing, and he is going to pay for repair *he runs a mowing/landscaping type business*

He wants me to get 2 estimates and then I can pick a place for repairs. Sorry, as I do not have pictures at the moment.

Questions:

The proper fix for this is to take it to a body shop where they will most likely sand / repaint a large area of the rear quarter???

The color is Inferno Orange Metallic, will this be a difficult color to match properly? * the body shop doing the work supposedly can enter codes into a machine to make the right paint mix.

I am open to any other advice as I would hate to have someone respray a large section and then be told that I would have been better of to do X, Y, or Z.

Thank you in advance.

Well, mine is black, and I did a Dr. whatever paint repair kit myself and I promise you that you would not be pleased with that option. I'm afraid it will take a large-ish area of repaint with fading in.

Sucks, glad the dude is going to pay for it

don't worry about the match, they have that covered at any decent paint shop....they can match any paint and blend it so well noone can tell....the key to that is a decent shop...I wouldn't take it to a dealer or anything....

I would bring it to a couple of good body shops and see what they say about it. They have the most knowledge.

After talking to family friends who have a body shop, I have decided to just have it touched up and move on. I'll just live with it and consider it patina. I'll probably also spare the guy from paying for a repaint at this point. We are both business people in a rural area and will most likely have to deal with eachother on some level for many years to come.
