Should I have my door repaired?

A parking attendant dropped a handheld credit card machine on my driver side door about a month ago. The damage is minimal but there nonetheless. I have two very small paint chips (diameter about the size of a toothpick). The company's insurance had me get a couple of repair quotes and they've agreed to pay about $400 plus $35 per day rental car reimbursement. I need help deciding if I would be better off in the long term by covering the chips with a drop of touch up paint/clear coat or having the body shop repaint and blend the entire door. The body shops claim it will be a flawless job but I'm worried the repair would either make things look worse or will deteriorate faster over time than the factory paint. I feel like the $400 should be mine regardless if i had the door fixed or not (think resell value) but the insurance company will only cut a co-payable check so I can't just pocket the money and live with a touch up job. I either get the door fixed in the next 3 months or just let it go. Any suggestions?

Any good body shop will make it flawless...now that paints are computerized mixed, the matching is near perfect in all situations...if you wanna take the money and run that's one thing, but don't be afraid of a quality body shop repair...

If you are near me, I have a great body shop you can use........

Need pics, but find a good body shop, and I admit that's easier said than done. And no, the insurance company won't only cut a copayable check, I promise, grab the bull by the horns if you have to.

You tell them you're willing to settle for an amount, what you do with it is your business. Don't take crap off of people like that. This is the part where I usually say you threaten to get a lawyer, but for $400 that doesn't make since, but you could sue them in small claims court for depreciation of the vehicle.

Unfortunately I've had to use body shops. Ive had paint done twice two different cars. The computers can match paint well, but you'll have the smell for a while. Both cars where light colors

I've had privous cars repaired by a good shop and had no subsequent issues with the fixed areas. I had had my Camaro for only 2 months when the hood was damanged by a tree branch (damage was relatively minor), but I didn't hesitate to have it fixed, based on my prior experience.

I had a chip just like that on my door. I got some touch up paint from my Chevy dealer and you can't even see it anymore. Do note that you might have to mix a tiny bit of paint thinner in it if it comes out of the bottle a little stringy.

Take the money and run. Get your estimates from the dealers only..as they tend to be higher.

Then go to a very good independent shop and get it done for half. Bag the rest of the greenbacks and smile!

So I am confused, you want the insurance full for one thing. but then do something much cheaper and pocket the difference? If you are going the cheap route, why not tell them to toss you 20 bucks for the paint and 50 for your time?
