Cranking the Camaro

Has anyone noticed that when you're turning the key to start your Camaro you can let go as soon as the starter engages and it will continue until the engine starts even though you backed off with just a short bump? It works just like the push button start does but with a key.

My '07 grand prix was like that too. It also won't grind the starter if it's already started and you try to turn the key again.

My GP does the same thing, is there a block out or something after the motor is running? Computer controlled?

Hmmm, we have an '05 Cavalier, '06 Vibe and '07 Cobalt and I'm pretty sure none of them do it.... The Vibe could be because of the whole Toyota thing (just a rebadged, facelifted Matrix after all) but the Cobalt...? Maybe I just haven't tried it with the Cobalt, but I know for a fact the Cav doesn't do it. It also grinds when accidentally turning the key when it's already running.....

yep, as soon as you hit the key the computer takes over and you can let off the key. It will also only allow it to crank so long before cutting the starter out to prevent damage. It also prevents engagement of the starter if the vehicle is running.
