30MPG in a 426HP SS - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Today I managed to get consistent 30 MPG give or take .5 MPG for occasional incline/declines on a 15 mile stretch of relatively flat highway at 60 MPH. I did this in a 2SS/RS 6 speed manual 426HP LS3. Other conditions were dry, 69⁰F, dusk, driver window down, no traffic, 690 miles on odometer wife and I combined weigh 420LB (I know lay off the double cheeseburgers).
GOD I love this car, it seems to do it all. BRAVO GM! I hope this car saves your bacon.

This picture was taken while driving west towards Denver. I reset the AVG MPG and set the cruise for over 20 miles. In short 20+ miles on cruise set at 83 MPH. Liberal or conservative this is pretty good performance.

I'm impressed! Can't wait for mine. Road trip to Glacier/Yellowstone next Summer should be good for some numbers like that.

The sticker says at best you can expect 29MPG, I beat that, at worst you can get 13MPG and that is my next goal once i get the car broke in.

I just went on a 500 mile trip, got 24.1 getting there, then played around, smoked a bmw and went to the old homestead etc, drove home and had 22.9 overall. Not too bad. That's in a 2SSRS 6 speed manual.

Blah i get bad mileage I think the best Ive had is 12 but its all due to my heavy foot. Im gonna try to take it slow this week and see what numbers i can get.

Those are highway miles. 12 is city driving.

The mpg goes way up of course because of gearing and energy. It's more effecient as you pickup speed less energy is required and the gearing converts it better as you speed up.

I'd be a little leary of what the DIC tells ya. Check your consumption at the gas station and do the math. I've had many a GM product where it was way off on the MPG.

I've been pleasantly suprised by the milage I'm getting. I've managed to get 27 at an AVG of 70 MPH and 29 @ 64 MPH.
I've only compared the DIC to miles/gallons once so far, it was almost all city and DIC=17.1 and my math came out at 16.8, so it was pretty close.
