Finally my 2nd track day :)

Ok, so after what seemed like forever waiting for my 2nd track day,Sun.it finally came. Unlike Laguna which i had never been to,Fontana, like Willow springs are my home tracks,so i expected myself to be fast.2 of the 4 sessions were stopped by oil from a blown motor, and a crash,in fact a C5 member totaled his ZL1. :(I was there as an instructor on Sat&Sun,a very busy weekend for me,but earned track time credit.

I posted a thread a couple months back here in the 1LE section,as well as the Calif.section, about Fontana track discount, and we had like 10 C5'rs all in the same garage,i have a pic and will post it when im done writing. As with most events i go to there are always a ton of Mustangs, and 1 or 2 Camaro's,but not this time.I have to give a shout out to Aaron from http://www.speedventures.com/ for giving us at C5 the discount.

So the last time i ran there was last Oct.in my 2011 1LTRS,and drove the wheels off and was able to get a 2:08 lap,in this hot rod i got a 2:00.I could of gotten into the 1:50's if i would of gone faster thru the banking, but i would only run it at 110,some here(C5) were doing 125-130,too risky for me and my baby. I drove in the top group, open passing racing conditions, and again i drove this 1LE so hard,i couldn't of driven any harder.Lap after lap fast and hard, late hard braking, absolutely no fade what so ever.I had replaced my brake lines with stainless lines, and it makes a big difference, there is still a little sponginess, but 95%better,i wonder if Lios big brakes would act the same.I had brake fluid run down the caliper,i didn't know what it was,but Doug(C5)told me what it was and helped me.

Ryan from Cunningham motorsports, has the most wicked sounding 1LE,i know he isn't stock and was running 1:54
I will post the thread of the crashed ZL1,man thats such a bummer, they actually had like 5 crashes, which doesn't usually happen, maybe they were just drooling, and preoccupied over the beautiful 1LE
Man those tires are a trophy unto them selves, the rubber is what was inside the rims

What a great time that looks like. I am in SoCal also (right near Ryne's shop) Maybe some day I can try that out also. Makes me nervous racing around others since this is my DD

Mark,

Was your brake line too tight or too loose? Did you change to the steel lines yourself? Good thing you figured that out quickly.

DId the ZL1 wreck due to the oil? How's the guy?

I look forward to watching your videos when the kids go to sleep tonight. Nice improvement on time.

Did you replace your tires?

According to a C5 member it was loose. I had a friend help me with the brake lines. The ZL1 guy apparently got sideways, then stuck and shot into the k rail, thats what i was told.I brought my 2nd pair of Pirellies and was going to change just to see the difference in lap times, but with instructing i was just too busy,so ran the Goodyears all day.

Awesome good time, I'm sure. Except for all of those wrecks, holy crap. A brand new TT RS got into a spinning S2000 when I was at Thunderhill, such a shame.

I'm a believer in track day insurance. Last I got a quote for the Camaro it was about $230 for an event. For a weekend, that's $115 per day. You had better believe I am insuring it every time. A buddy got into some oil at Sonoma, $36k damage. Just not worth it to track without track day insurance, in my opinion. But I think most don't bother. Luckily the Audi TT had it, or he would have been out $60K.

Agreed, the only time i bought it was for Laguna, but the more i think about how hard i drive this 1LE,i mean i cant drive it any harder,so the likely hood of something going bad, could really happen.
