Remove Third Brake Lamp
Has anyone seen an easy way to remove the "High Mount Stop Lamp" from the vert?

Just curious - if you take it off, how are you going to meet the requirement to have a center brake light?

Ive seen it completely removed. and molded smooth. looks great with no brake light in the center. who cares about whats legal and whats not. I see people all the time driving around with no working brake lights. do they ever get in trouble? no. when someone rearends them its not their fault either. do what you like. Ill remove mine one day when I find a set of trim pieces for cheap.

you want the entire thing gone, or just the lens pulled out? there are 2 screws that go into the bottom of the light to hold it in place, it slides down into the trunk compartment to come out. the actual panel its sitting in is held in place by the 2 side panels.
ill see if I can get you a pic to show you

if u look up through the holes in the trunk where the light is, you will see 4 green tabs. you need to release the tabs and push them up. these 4 tabs hold the light housing in place. ones its out you can then unbolt the lense from the housing. its not easy unless you have a tool to fit in there.
might help to have something to pry between the housing and the body of the car, just to help keep the tabs released. just be careful. ![]()

I try but its got an issue I can't see to track down. It dies after 15/20 minutes. I've replaced just about everything it could be. Each time I think I fixed it, it leaves me on the side of the road. I'm about to give up on it. And drive my 1990 iroc vert when I'm not driving the ZL1. And my TBSS is my daily driver/ work vehicle. Rarely ever try the 97 anymore.

My bad. It not required for cars manufactured prior to 1986 (1994 for trucks). But you have to have it for cars manufactured after that date. |
