wow heavy cars

i been looking at 2LT verts new at dealer yet. also considering coupe but will order.
i knew the cars were heavy, but i looked them up, and the 2LT vert weights 3,995, almost 4000 pds. and the 2ss vert 4,116 pds.!

wow. maybe i should consider the ss anyway for power to weight ratio. the v8 is needed for over 4000 pds. and that not including people in car.

i have my parents old 1977 grand prix. my son calls it brown bomb. this car is a tank if anyone of you remember. and it weighs less than these verts! it is about 3900 pds. and again, this thing is a tank.

i was just surprised how much and now see the criticizm on the weight of these cars.

I have the 1LT 2011 Convertible with a few bolt-on mods, and the car beat a 2007 mustang GT at the drag strip(2 times in a row).

The strip win may not mean much, but despite the weight, it is a solid and fun car.

Convertible + summer = fun.

They might be a little chubby, but they are beautiful machines! It was perfect weather here yesterday for top down driving!

Yes, but with a few mods these cars handle great.
Yesterday was a great top down day in New England also. Driving home at 7:00 it was a beautiful 72*, top down and the supercharger sucking in that nice cool air !

i test drove both cars, new this week. yes, they do drive nice. if i got one, i may do a k/n cold air intake and that probably it. i aint looking at smokin tires or going 200 mph. but, the heavy feel in a way, feels secure when driving on hwy, protection with air bags too.

Sure doesn't feel heavy.

Wonder if the extra weight is why the insurance is so cheap.

yup, extra weight makes it solid when the car flips and keeps it leveled to the ground . So , the insurance likes that it is less prone to lose its grip to the road most likely.

While not as light as a Mustang, remember that many of us cannot afford a garage queen and are looking for as much of a "do it all" car as we can. That weight sure does make her ride SMMMOOOOTTTTTHHHH on long distance journeys. Just did my first long trip in my car, 600 miles round trip, and it was nice the way she felt planted to the road.

true, heavy does make it handle better. i remember driving my wifes 88 ford escort GT. it was light, got good mileage, but felt that way in driving too.

Camaros are heavy relative to say Mustangs, but you can't compare them to 70s cars whether they are boats or not. Modern cars in general are very heavy. There is a lot of steel so people can drive into telephone poles while texting an not get hurt!

Plus you have tons of air bags, electric motors for everything, lots of sound insulation, huge wheels and tires, and on and on...
