Drilling 1" holes in exhaust

I have a friend who wanted to make his exhaust louder and claims he gets more hp from drilling holes in his exhaust pipes. He drilled 3 holes in each pipe just before his mufflers. What are the pros and cons to this?

No pros... only cons. Don't take his advice unless you want a new Camaro that sounds like it has a bad exhaust leak.

I'm not going to do it to mine. I just wanted to know how it effects the car.

Actually this will have a very slight performance benefit that would be so slight it's not noticeable. However bypassing the resonators like this will give a really ugly raspy sound. (Maybe this is what he wanted?)
Save $, get a resonated x pipe, remove back resonators and put in j-pipes. Or just go to solo exhausts and get a catback system.

He claims he can get 30 hp more. And he wanted it louder. Said it was like having 3" cutouts. I wouldn't do it to my car, but wanted to know what you thought.

Your friend is a certified waterhead! There is no way he's getting even a single hp or tq increase.

No it's true adding holes to your exhaust makes it faster and sound amazing. You can also delete system32 to make your computer faster. True facts.
