Today's project: The Ron Davis - ADM heat exchanger

I've been shopping for an aftermarket HXer now for a while but I couldn't make up my mind on which one to choose. So after looking at the various options available I decided on the Ron Davis HXer that ADM sells.

Although the cooler isn't any larger in height or width, it is deeper which gives it more surface area which increases cooling capacity vs the stock HXer. Andy tells me he doesn't like the other coolers mainly because they're too thick which often slows down airflow to other vital things like the AC condenser and the radiator.

So this is what Andy uses on his builds which is good enough for me. Installation was a breeze mainly because the Ron Davis HXer is a direct bolt on replacement to the stock cooler. No mods to the hoses or anything is needed.

So here's some pics. The first is a pic of the factory cooler.

This was my first ZL1 nose pull and me and my friend did everything in roughly 3 hours.

front clip is a breeze to remove. just go slow and pay attention. easier to put on with a second person.

ozzy, do you have a gauge cluster to read the iats?

Thanks.. My issue is not taking it apart, it's putting it back together!

I have an Ultragauge that I will be using for some before and after testing. I did a few hard runs yesterday and got some data. I will try to do a few more with the new cooler in the next day or so.

I will post my results.

Look forward to seeing the results

This is the HX I think I'm going to go with too, although I'll wait on the results and opinions you post after running it for a while

the cooler is nice and it fits 100% perfectly with existing mounting and hose connections. I don't know how valid my test results will be because I'm kind of concerned my Ultragauge is giving me wrong data.

I say that because I did a couple hard runs yesterday and my IATs hardly pegged 110F @ 8lbs of boost which can't be right. at least not with the OEM HXer.

I don't know......

Nice! You should sell your Super Chiller if your not using it.

Does that fit either direction or is there a top? Reason I ask the stock ZL1 looks like it would work same up side down?
You want to sell your stock H/E? I have a customer interested in switching back and using a Chiller?

Yes I know, if you are not going to use it you should sell it. I'm moving my shop now (today this week!) and its just in the way. We are exhausted, we moved dead cars and my lift today. I just dropped from heat and exhaustion.

I have some dead RX Chillers too LOL.
