6l50 overheat and Dtc

Hello!

After tracking the car for 20 minutes the DIC reported a temperature of 111 Celsius (230 ish Fahrenheit) and threw some codes and lost power + problem lights on the cluster.

Codes are : P0634 u0101 p0700, they are tcm temperature related.

The car was on the hypertech tune at 25% shift firmness and rev limiter cranked all the way up, driven to the limit in sports mode.

Mods are mrt axleback, intake insulator, ported intake manifold, airaid Cai, and the tune + elite catch can.

After being escorted to the pit I removed the tune and cleared codes, seems fine now.

Could the transmission be damaged? Should I change the fluid? What fluid is best?

Also, would a colder thermostat lower those insane temperatures at the track?

Any input would be appreciated, It would be a shame to damage this car.

Thanks to you all.

Back the fill plug out just alittle and get a sample of trans fluid. Does it smell burnt wipe it on a white paper towel is it black or reddish

Dexron 4 is a very good trans fluid
You went into limp mode so thats good

Maybe get a remote mount trans cooler there easy to install and you can also add a extra fan so when your at the track just flip a switch

When I use to track my old 02 SS I removed the cowl seal at the track that really helped my temps dropped by 40 degrees

If you are going to track it you will need a external transmission cooler to start with!!!

thanks guys, any opinions on what cooler would be good with stock radiator? (I assume the lines will be re-routed to the new one... ) ?

I used the B&M hi-tek cooler (the big one) it has a fan fitted. And yes I re-routed the lines from the rad.
I don't race, but the temps are cooler, < 180, and never go above on spirited driving and im in South Florida.

I ordered the fanless flex-a-fit cooler. Should I re route even without a fan?

I'm really not best placed to answer that. I'm no expert. But it won't hurt to leave it routed through the rad first then to the external cooler.
My theory would be coolant enters the top of the rad, by the time it has any chance of convection to the bottom where the tranny cooler is, it should be at a lower temp than the transmission fluid. The bottom of the rad also gets a good air flow. I think in your case i would leave in line. This is one of those you will likely get different opinions.. Good luck
