Just picked up my new Zl1...Acceleration question

Just got my 2014 White Zl1 in automatic...Love the car!!

Question about accelerating in it...I know you shouldnt run it hard when it is brand new but if I put the pedal to the floor the car seems to lose power a bit and sort of surge and delay and then it opens up...where as if I slowly give it gas till its all the way open it accelerates much better. Does this have to do with the supercharger? Thanks all!

The GM Engineers very highly recommend following the break in proceedures in the owners manual. I believe it is good advice. Welcome !

Understood. But does that mean I can't do some very short WOT runs?...Still doesn't answer my question about the lag, but we will see after 1500 miles.

Can't remember if the manual says anything about not going to WOT. I think WOT is okay, they just don't want you to do WOT at a dead stop and over 4k rpm.

I believe this is good info. I don't believe the break-in states WOT is an issue just max RPM is to stay under 4K,keep rpm varied, and keep speed under 80 MPH. If someone has read the break-in recently and this is wrong please chime in. This was my break-in on my car. WOT was part of the process just not hard launches and short shifted at 4K.

Most likely this is traction control pulling the car back so that it will not spin. Play with the PTM modes or turn off T/C to see if that makes a difference. It does in mine.

Congrats on the new ZL1. Pics?

It sounds like when traction control comes on, no real worries. After break-in you will see the full power of the beast.

I am not sure this is everyone's experience but after about 800 miles or so on my car, I noticed a significant increase in acceleration without changing a thing.

I noticed this when the weather was a bit cooler in the mornings. Then by chance as it was happening, I saw that I was bouncing off the TC. The light was flickering on and off. As others suggested, play with the settings. I turned off all of mine and instead of the bog, I got wheel spin.

Almost everyone has at varying miles, seems most right around the end of the break-in, go figure!

What your experiencing is Traction control or stabiltrac or both cutting power due to loss in traction.

These cars have a lot of power and the tires need heat in them before they really start to grip.

You can Push and hold the Fun Button Down for 8 Seconds or until both the Traction control and stabiltrac lights come on.

The Fun Button is the Traction control button.

Congrats on a Great Car.

What everyone else said is true, however I suggest you don't use the fun button until you have mastered the car the way it is, 580 HP is alot of power, too many have lost their cars (some their lives) before the 1500 mile break in period had come.

I am the opposite, I always run my car with all nannies off unless it's raining then I go into tour mode. I just didn't want to get used to a lower setting just to be surprised in an upper one. Besides I've had old school big blocks and high powered small blocks with no traction controls what so ever, just take it easy with the full power you have until you are comfortable and can master all of it when and how you want. Just my opinion.
