Interesting VIN/Question

Here are some pics of the first manual transmission 2010 Camaro V-6's I've seen in the wild. One is Black and the other is Rally Yellow. Neither have the RS package. They were spotted at Phillips Chevy in Frankfort, Illinois (southern suburb of Chicago) on Sunday, July 12, 2009. They also do not have a real window sticker (see photo). Very interesting.

I just had a question about the VIN's. Every other 2010 Camaro I have seen and photographed have had a "1" after the "9". These two cars have a "0" instead of a "1". I even looked at Rick Hendricks first production car Vin and it also had the "1" after the "9". What is the deal with the "0"? Have I missed something or am I just tired and can't remember the reason. Thanks for any info.

Enjoy the pics.

Here is a picture of the window sticker I saw on another black manual transmission V-6 car. These 2 cars had the same window sticker laying on the dashboard. I apparently forgot to take a picture of them so this one should suffice.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but shouldn't those VINs be for CTF cars?

They are and if the are M6 V6 then they have the rare 2ND gear synchro that was replaced.

Is this a good thing or bad thing? My Vin is like that too or like the pics of the ones above having a "0" instead of the "1" . Other then being a low Vin what does the rare synchro mean exactly?

My Vin...

Thanks!!

Cars with a 0 after the 9 where part of the 1000 or so pre-production cars they built for shows, car magazines etc. Some went on to dealers or auctions after and you will find them around. Cars with the 1 after the 9 are regular production cars that started rolling off the line on March 16. Hendricks was the first (9100001). I would imagine if they build more then 99999 Camaros for 2010, the sequence would then go to 9200001.

So having a Vin that represents pre-production.....would that make a difference in long term value. Would it still be considered a low Vin since it has a different production meaning or being the first 1000 or so produced?

Thanks for the insight on this!!

Don

I would bet the preproduction vins may be the most collectable in the distant future....less than 1000 made...especially the SS versions. But I wouldn't count on it.

I don't know if I would call it pre-production. It just happened to have been made prior to the "first" car off the line which was Hendrick's 100001. It is an actual production car along with any of the cars that rolled off after it and a few before it. The CTF cars made up 000001 thru something shy of 500. If you really want a rare car, find 000001 or 000002.
