Oil change question

Ok so at 3,000 miles I took the ss to the dealer to change the oil. I did this so if I ever shoot a rod through the block they won't start to point fingers. Anyway, I noticed when I came across the invoice they put Dexos 5w-30 in it. This of course, was after I asked them to use Mobil-1. So my question is, is it going to hurt to use Mobil-1 when I change the oil at 6,000 miles?

I could be wrong, but I believe Dexos is a GM specification for oil not a type of oil itself. Mobil1 and a couple of other oils meet the Dexos specification. So Mobil1 5W30 could be referred to as Dexos 5W30 since it meets the spec.

I appreciate the info guys. I only put about 4-5000 miles a year so it'll be a while.

3000 miles?? You should be getting at least 7000 miles out of Mobil 1. At 8 quarts a change, save yourself some money and hassle.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but this is my first car using synthetic oil. Should I still change it every three months? I'm only putting about 500 miles a month on it. I always changed conventional every three months.

Once a year as specified in the owner's manual will be fine.

Edzo is only driving 6,000 miles a year. Synthetic oil does not go "bad" like a quart of milk. The three months or 3,000 miles change interval was started by the quick lubes and the dealers jumped on the bandwagon because of the increased profits. Today's oils are the best ever and unleaded gas does not contaminate the oil like the leaded gas from the past. Fuel injection results in a cleaner burn than the carbs of the past, causing a lot less fuel dilution. Chevrolet warranties the powertrain for five years or 100,000 miles. Follow the maintenance intervals in the owners manual.

Dexos comes in 2 types - synthetic blend and full synthetic, Dexos 1 & 2. I could not find which was the blend and which was full syn. They may have used full syn, but my guess is you got the blended synthetic. Ask you dealer which they used...

When I did ask I just got a bunch of "I'm not sure" replies. Of course, this is after asking for Mobil-1. I ended asking the parts manager what they use and he started shrugging his shoulders and went on a rant about how expensive Mobil-1 is. If I'm requesting it I obviously don't care. Who knows man the dealer in my town is a nightmare and I'm not the only one who says this by far

+ 1. If you go less than 5-7k miles in a year, once a year is plenty and recommended per the owner's manual. I had less than 5k at the year mark and changed it and paid the $25 for the Blackstone oil analysis and they stated it was still good, try another 3-5k more next time..

Neighbor of mine has a lease BMW and they come and change it at his house or work as most people with a lease won't change their oil at all for the 24-36 month lease, and yet another reason never to buy a former leased car or even worse, a rental.

Just had my third oil change done in my ss. The engine sounds different upon harder acceleration to me. Is this normal? Is something possibly wrong? Or is it just me being paranoid after driving with my windows down more now that it's cooler here in Mississippi?
