Transmission swap

Hey guys....need some help here...now before you go on and raise some eye brows, I wanna give you some background to my requirement. I live in a city (Dubai, U.A.E) where traffic is just getting bad to worse as the months go by.

Here, I own a 2010 Camaro SS M6 that runs about 608RWHP. I have a whipple, cam and a whole list of toys that help the car put down that kind of power. Along with all the upgrades, you can imagine I had to upgrade my clutch too to a twin disc heavy duty clutch by Exedy. Drivability during traffic hours is just so painful, especially with the clutch behaving differently as the temperatures go up crawling in the traffic. The cam doesn't help crawl peacefully in the traffic too. Car keeps rocking back and forth....I want to swap out to automatic!!

THERE....I SAID IT!!!

Is it doable and what are your suggestions? Please mention pros and cons of doing so...

I would really appreciate your feedback.

Keep in mind, in the near future I plan to go bigger block targeting 800+ on the wheels.

4l80e or a th400. The 4l80 is pricey and the computer part I am sure is tricky. I am doing a th400 swap as we speak, much cheaper but just a strong. I also like no electronics and still shifting on my own. Down side is no overdrive, but all depends on the driving you do. 70mph will still be fine with the Th400 but gas mileage is gonna drop.

Somehow I don't think gas mileage is going to be much of an issue in the UAE.

Ajmalian, just out of curiosity, how much is gasoline there, per gallon or per liter, however it's sold?

I have the same set as you whipple cam and 586 RWHP am running the 4L80 trans. I track the car a lot and joy ride. Go with the 4l80 you'll love it. You can cruse at high speeds with out high rpm with your 3.45 rear gear. Am running 3.91 with mine.

Mr. Nasty, I too am running 3.91 rear gear..but tell me, is 4l80e not a 4 speed?

I would've imagined we would need a 6l80e or 6l90 like the ZL1 at the least where we get a 6 speed auto?

JohnnyBfromPeoria, our gas sells at $0.50/liter or $1.90/US Gallon for 98 Octane and $ 0.44/liter or $1.67/US Gallon for 95 Octane....then we've got diesel which I honestly don't know about

What are the prices like in the US?

Unfortunately I don't know or understand the whole overdrive and stall converter locking up concept as yet. I guess I have to read up on I before I ask these questions huh?

I didn't know things "lock up"

Where do I go to learn all this?

Nice I cut 91 with 112 to make a 99 octane at a cost of $7.50 a gallon. And my work trucks are diesel and its $3.90 a gallon.

Ajmalian, the closest comparison I can give you is our 91 octane (probably the same as your 95 because of the measuring method). The best price I have paid in recent history was $3.21/gallon.

I honestly thought yours would be even less than that, but I sure wouldn't complain if I was paying it!
