Exhaust Procedure

As a few of you know I am getting my complete Titanium exhaust next week.
long story short our floor lift is not accesable atm. and im in no way patient enough to wait. So...... my question.

1)Jack stands 10-12" up how hard is it to change a cat-back?

2)I do not want to cuz anything as I am planning on selling the NPP System. Is there any cross members or parts that have to be removed for this like on 4th gen?

3) im a small guy 145lbs, so i can fit in places most cant.

plan on buying a torque wrench so everything is accurate and no over tightening occurs.

I did it with jack stands, no problem. As far as not wanting to cut anything, make sure you have room behind the car to remove the entire length of the exhaust (it was tight backed into the garage). Most cat backs I've seen replace the stock exhaust straight up, no changing parts. You will re-use the clamp between the factory h pipe and the cat back. Use some penetrating lube on the rubber hangers and have a beer while it soaks in. It makes life a ton easier trying to slide them off. Other than that, just take your time and tighten everything to spec with that handy-dandy torque wrench (a must for any garage mechanic) and enjoy the new sound! Good luck.

put the car in 'nose' first into the garage... so you can pull the 9.5foot unit out from under.

when i dropped my stock catback, I loosened the diffuser panel (took out the 6 screws and yanked the corners out... the center 4 tabs of the diffuser are a beeyotch, so I didn't bother taking the whole thing out)

take your floor jack with a thin board up under the catback (just under the diff) and ease it down as you move it all forward to get the hanger wires off the rubbers. That is when you will thank yourself for loosening the diffuser.

buying a torque wrench for this operation probably isn't quite needed... but always good to have and do. you could get by with 'getting a feel' of it when you remove it from the car

well i have to take the diffuser off completely anyways i believe, because i currently have NPP so its shorter but wider. and i will be installing dual 4.5" tips. so im going to be running no diffuser untill someone buys my NPP and trades me diffusers, or i break down and buy one.

I just installed my catback two weeks ago (by myself) and here are my thoughts:

I strongly suggest using soapy water on the rubber hangers rather than oil. Oil will deteriorate the rubber....it may take a while but it will.

I removed my diffuser and the others are correct; the middle 3 or 4 tabs are next to impossible to get loose. I managed to do it but broke 2 in the process (super glue did work on re-attaching the tabs though) . However, I could not get to the hangers above the muffler without removing the diffuser.

There is a tunnel brace that you need to take off....4 bolts and very easy.

Since I did this by myself, I used my floor jack under the center of the stock catback to support it as I removed the rubber hangers.

When you install the new catback attach all your clamps but keep them loose until you line everything up. Since you may run without a diffuser for a while, you may have to re-align the tips once you get that installed.

I will say it does take a little patience if you are doing it alone but it's pretty easy....the diffuser was the worse part for me.

How wide is each opening on the NPP diffuser? What kind of diffuser are you looking for that will work with your tips?

I just have singles so I am not that familiar with all of the dual tip setups.

Seal on a diffuser? For the tips? Oh, are you talking about that rectangular type of opening that is made into the diffuser?

I just have the standard SS setup....with bigger tips now.

Oh, got it. As long as you have all your hangars in place, you will be fine. The diffuser is just window dressing. That has nothing to do with hanging the exhaust.
