noise when engaging clutch from first to second

Hiya - I drive a 2012 LS. Bought it used back in June with 10K miles on it and I noticed the sound immediately.

Took it to the dealer - 8 hours in the shop and they said it is "normal." The car drives fine but seems like bs that the noise is supposed to be there.

Sounds like a clunking and can feel the movement in the shifter.

Any experience with this? Any suggestions on what questions to ask a mechanic to look at more closely?

Sounds like what I have on mine to, I think it's normal. I hear a noise when disengaging usually. the movement you feel is probably just the gears disengaging. Remember it does have a lot of torque in the lower gears.

What kind of noise and movement in the shifter? I'm not following. I have an M6 and I don't understand what you're talking about.

This is normal. I had my dad (who is the service manager at a Chevy dealer) check into this a year or two ago. We found an LS3 on the lot, fired it up and sure enough, had the same noise as mine.

Checked into the dealer records database for any other incidents and found one dealer who replaced the entire transmission and all related parts (clutch, flywheel, housing, etc. etc.) and the car made the exact same noise when it came down off the lift (apparently, this is just what I was reading in the database).

Anyway, it appears to be normal for these cars. Mine has done it since day one and I don't really even notice it anymore.

Can you guys explain what you are hearing? Does it do it every time?

I get what sounds to me like a rattling noise when I push in the clutch and it's in first gear. It only does it about half of the time. I've been meaning to take it in to the dealer.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear of this frustration. I do apologize as I am unable to offer technical assistance as our Customer Service department is not technically certified, but if you would like to get a second opinion from a different dealership, I would be happy to assist in scheduling an appointment. Let me know at any time!

Mine did it often not every time, but often. When I pressed the clutch it sounded like something was rattling. I thought it might be a spring, but that didn't make sense cause we have hydraulic right?

Slack in the linkage. Normal in almost every manual trans car I've driven. Some are louder than others.

I have a 2013 LS and when I disengage from first to 2nd I can feel like a shutter kind of feeling from disengaging the clutch. It makes the car feel like it shakes a little from it. Never had any problems with it though other then the noise and shutterish feeling from it. i'd say its normal also.. theres also the clunking fuel pump in the back that does its pressure test or whatever every time you start the car cold start.

It's driveline windup. Change the synchronization between letting off the gas and pressing in the clutch, and it goes away. After I learned how to change that timing, mine rarely makes the noise.
