ZL1 Carbon Fiber Insert Problem

Hello,

We have a 2013 Camaro ZL1 and the carbon fiber insert is de-laminating, I went to the dealership and they told me they were going to send it to their body shop and repair it, instead of replace it. Does anyone know if that is even possible? How I was explained about it is that once that begins to happen it can only be replaced. Also I wasn't sure if the clear coat on the insert is the same one on ZR1's that is mega bucks. Please let me know your opinions.

I would never accept a dealer body shop to try to "fix" it. I worked at a Chevy dealer body shop...and we never even attempted to fix any type of carbon fiber parts.

I would demand a new insert for sure

If it's delaminating, I don't think there's much that CAN be done to stop it. Fixing it will likely be a FAIL. Even if they recleared it, the delamination won't stop.

Campaign for a new replacement.

My opinion. I'd accept nothing other than a replaced piece. (Considering the lamination process itself, I am not sure it is even possible). I'm sure some thing it may be similar to a base/clear (clear over) repair, which it is far-far from that.

Tell the dealer that you want to meet with the Chevrolet District Service Manager for their dealership.

Did he mean replace the car or the insert?!?

After seeing all the issues with the exposed hood insert I am super glad I ordered mine last year with the painted Ashen Grey! No regrets here.

it is not repairable. they will replace it and when they do make sure they don't damage the hood paint like they did on mine. last round had to have whole hood painted because when they pryed the insert out they scratched and chipped my paint.
