BBK headers bent and rusted?

Hey all,

I just got my ceramic BBK headers in the mail but am unsure about one of them, the lip is slightly bent and there is rust along the inside. The lip shouldn't be an issue since the cats go around the header as I understand it. But the rust has me thinking. I called BBK and sent an email with the same pictures, the guy who answered said he'd look into it for me.

Anyway, what do you guys think? The last picture is of the header with no issues.

Not sure about the rust, but the lip on one of my headers was bent too. No issues. Let us know what BBK sends back.

Rust in the vicinity of weldments is fairly typical - usually the first place it appears. I looks to be surface rust and would have appeared very shortly after use anyway. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. But maybe BBK will have something different to say. Silly me thought that ceramic coated meant a coating both inside and out. Had no idea the inside was left uncoated. IMO, that's where the coating is needed...

Yeah I found that other thread where someone had the same issue. But the rust issue wasn't settled I felt like. As far as BBK's response, I'll let all of you guys knows as soon as I do.

The surface rust is normal around the weld points but I am curious to see what BBK has to say

Speak of the devil!

Hey Carlos,

Sorry I haven’t had a chance to call back yet.. Phones have been a bit busy today to say the least. This does look like something that could cause some leaking issues. The rust also is not normal for a “brand new” part. Do I remember you saying you bought these from American Muscle?

That's quite a few people. I don't feel very secure about these now.

Not saying yours are fine, but I've never ever heard of anyone having any issues with BBKs after the install. Have you heard back from them?

No not yet, and you're right I haven't either. That reminder does help, thanks KM. But I decided to check the header again and the rust is present even on the manifold side, so the rust must go the entire length of the header. I contacted autoanything and they told me call customer service for a warranty claim.

The whole bottom of my bbk headers are completely rusted out and my cats are completely covered in rust, regardless if they ceramic coated they aren't stainless steel.

How long did that take to happen?

This. Mild steel and 400 series stainless will rust. Even if it is coated it will still happen eventually. If you want you exhaust to stay pristine and outlast the car then you have to go with 300 series stainless.
