I'd say FAST so far offers the best gains. But a cheaper route is to get your stock manifold ported. The gains from that are slightly less than the gains from a FAST. Ported is an insignificant amount less gains but you'll save hundreds.

Porting the stock intake will gain almost nothing. However, it can have a modification done that will pick up power. Rhino79 and Rick Crawford do them for sure.

A stand-alone ported intake manifold probably won't do much. It does however, provide "extra" gains to other upgrades (CAI, ported throttle body, cam, headers, etc).

Custom intake manifolds are expensive and not worth the price when used on a stock motor. They are more for big cubes and/or high boost...or car shows. And even then they will still be within the gains of a FAST intake. I've seen some custom intakes priced over $3,000. Your best bet is to go ported. If you can find a good deal on a used FAST, then I would go that route.
