Mercy switch

Hey guys I'm working on putting LEDs under my hood and I bought a mercury switch so they would turn on when the hood opens does anyone know of a good place to mount it under the hood so nothing hits it

Not sure, but I always wondered if you could tap into the sensor that tells you when the hood is open..

Perhaps someone knows more about that sensor?

I'm willing to bet it sends a ground signal out tell the BCM the hood is open. Use that to trigger a relay to turn the light on. I haven't look at it closely.

Couldn't you just connect the ground wire to it and then have the positive directly wired. Or does it just send a ground pulse and not a constant ground?

I did something like this with a door switch on a previous car and it worked alright.

I'm sure you could. If its an LED light then that would probably work fine.

I think you'd do better with a plunger-type switch like they use on the doors, trunk, and aftermarket remote start kill switches....every time you hit a bump the lights are going to flash on, even if you wont be around to see them.

I have mine hard wired where the jump post is. The switch is a momentary switch. When the button on the switch is pressed (hood closed) the light is off. Button not pressed (hood open) light is on. It's hard to see but the switch is circled in yellow.
