Winter wheels/tires

The good news is that I sold my pickup/winter beater for a hefty profit. The bad news is that it snowed last night and today and I am quickly realizing how bad the Camaro is during winter.

I have a 2011 2SS and I am looking for a wheel/winter tire combo that won't break the bank but is good.

Please share your packages and recommendations.

Blizzak LM-60's

The good news is that they help a ton!
The bad news is that they are about $800-$1000

I was just on Tire rack and the only tires they had were Pirelli Scorpions. Anyone have experience with those?

Has anyone gone with 18 or 19 inch wheels on a 2ss/RS?

I have Continental ExtremeContact DWS's on my stock 20's. They are available at Discount Tire.

They have treated me well in the 1.5 years I've had them on my daily driver here in Denver...

I have gone with a set of 19"Rims and DM-V1s. I don't think you can fit 18" Rims on the SS unless you modify the brakes. The 18"s won't clear the roller skates on the Brembo brakes.

If you try to select any of TireRack's 18" winter packages, you will get the following warning message in your cart:

WARNING!! 18" wheels will only clear Brembo brake package if the caliper weights (early models) are removed or the OE brake pads are replaced with aftermarket pads that do not contain weights on the backing plates (later models). Please verify proper clearance at the time of the installation to avoid damage to the wheel and brake caliper. Some brake noise may result from modification.

I have the 21" P-zeros oem. I went to Tire Rack.com and ordered 19" rims with the Scorpion ice & snow tires. They were shipped to my door, mounted, balanced, and ready to go. I've only had one opportunity to run them in snow[I try to avoid that, but sometimes I just get trapped out somewhere], and they did great.Total was around $1800.00 and well worth the price.

Great. Thanks for the advice.

How are the Blizzaks? How many years have you had them?

I think i've narrowed it down to the blizzaks vs pirelli scorpion winters.

I live in Nebraska so we have some weeks where the roads are pretty nasty. But most of the time they are snow/ice free or have very light snow/ice. As I understand it, the blizzaks are better in snow and ice but the pirelli's are more durable and better when its dry.

Any reccomendations?

I've had the Scorpions out in some deeper stuff so far and they're damn good.
I was not expecting a 2SS/RS to be as good as it is in the snow. I found a set of excellent 20" take offs and mounted the Pirellis on them.
Stabilitrack rocks..

how is the tread wear and dry performance of the tire? I imagine the weather in PA and NE are pretty similar.

My second season on Pirellis. They drive good in cold dry, and in snow. My car runs 12.0 in the quarter so I can easily spin the tires if get on it:

The car isn't a daily driver but I've heard they wear pretty well.
The performance in the dry is damn good too..

I didn't want to go for the Blizzaks because they dry handling was mentioned as being a bit sloppy and tire wear was supposedly worse than the Scorpions. I've only experienced the Scorpions though the rest is here say!
