"Camaro on the way" but no build date?!

I have a dealer that is holding for me a Camaro that is due to their showroom in "3-4 weeks". I do have to put down a deposit.

I was looking for a manual transmission with 2ss RS package and they said that they don't have one currently with the RS package, they do have one without it. They say that a different one is coming in 3-4 weeks "that they ordered already" with my options but also has a sunroof.

It sounds like they really have one on the way, but when I asked for the build date they told me that they don't know that date until it is being built.

question: 1) Doesn't the dealership get the build date weeks before it actually is being built?

2) Is this dealership just trying to get my deposit and then make me wait months? Should I ask for a guarantee that I not have to wait more than xxx weeks or I get my deposit back? Or just tough it out?

It seems that car is "Accepted To Production" - then "Scheduled For Production" - and "Produced" is a very short amount of time. I pre-ordered my Camaro, and my dealer was only notified once it was produced.

Why don't you ask your dealer? Don't trust 'em?

You should find a reputable dealer. Order the car you want. Put down your deposit. And wait.

Yeah dude you can still find the car you want, some dealers may even have the car on the lot and most likely selling it over MSRP. My dealer has a 2SS/RS it is Victory Red but they want 7k over MSRP if your willing let me know, PM me. Either way you can still find one, and yes ask for a garauntee from the dealer if you are putting money down.

This is a reputable dealer, but my sales lady may not truly understand the 'lingo'. Maybe I'll try to talk to the sales manager to see if they have been 'allocated' another camaro and then what the build date is. Because I do assume that once you have an allocation you should have access to a build date...correct?

This sounds like a dealer that ordered a car under a false name to get the cars in stock then sell over MSRP...

Or someone ordered it then backed out.

I got more info. The sales lady asked the manager and states that they DO have the camaro allocated. They still feel that it will arive within 4 weeks!?

She states similar to FNKNSTN above in that their dealership will order it and only get a build date and invoice when it is being built or done. They are selling this at MSRP so I don't think it's any sort of scam. I did put a deposit down but she gave me a receipt that states that I can get it back if the car is not on the lot in 4 weeks. Oh and I did directly ask if they were just trying to lock in a sale without the reality of a car arriving soon. She sincerely felt that the car would be there in 3 to 4 weeks. I just don't see how...

I guess I don't understand the whole allocation, build date, invoice delivery process. I'm reading several threads on this topic, but I haven't found any that seems too confident in the process thoughout. hmmm

Yes, its 6 characters. Usually mostly letters but does contain numbers as well. For a Camaro, it would most likely start with an N or M
