So..Pedders have gone bust...what about my Coilovers?

Guys - getting the news that Pedders USA have gone bust made me want to re-check on the condition of my XA Coilovers...to my horror I noticed a trace of oil on both rear shocks (see Pic). Should I be worried? If the seals are going, are they repairable? (I'm in North Texas)...your help would be appreciated!

Hey Awdition, this post may be of help to you. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=335874
If they are leaking you'll want to get them repaired as soon as you can. What will happen as the fluid leaks out is the nitrogen pressure will decrease. This decrease in pressure is going to cause cavitation around the piston as it goes through it's stroke. The cavitation is going to cause pitting on the valve stack and performance is going to drastically reduce. Have you ever seen a boat prop after some use? They look like someone took a miniature ball peen hammer to the backside of the blades. That's what some of the parts on the inside of the shock will look like.

I guess technically, they're going bust.

I didn't realize these could be repaired.

Pedders USA is in Texas Western Bankruptcy Court, under a Chapter 7 involuntary petition filed on Dec 26, 2013

...so does anyone know where I can get these repaired in Texas?

They can be rebuilt. Bc, Pedders and Megan all the same design. One member had the rears, or one not sure which, rebuilt for $100.Usually just need the seals replaced.

Thanks - this was very helpful. One of the members who posted in that link is having his repaired...so I'll look on with interest!

Wow that really sucks about Pedders USA. I wonder if the parent company down under is going under too?
