Automatic shift knobs - MAYBE EXTREME

Sooo. What do you do when you have 3D software and no incoming work for a week......Keep in mind these are purely cosmetic!!!
I know some guys with machine shops have been making adapters and such. There are maybe 1 or two other options for knobs out there. Without those small few we would have nothing, so props to those guys.

What I came up with was a way to actuate the button for shift position but put whatever crazy body I wanted around the mechanism

I have 3D printers and SLS vendors at my disposal so I am thinking about using some of my tax return to run a few of these. There is absolutely no machining involved. The parts will come in a white glass filled nylon material and then I can sand / seal / primer / paint / plate / hydrodip (OB I maybe calling you).......The possibilities are endless I guess....... I use this process all the time so I know this is strong enough and they finish real well.

Money is tight with no work coming in so there is some risk involved.....but what the hell, why not.............What do you think?

F14 Flight stick next?

maybe tonight I will print them 1:1 on paper and cut them out, If I get a chance I will take some pics

Hmmmm not bad if looking for something very different. I still prefer something like this though for our type of cars

If you can come up with an insert that I could use inside of a wood shift handle, I would be very interested.
I made the shift handle in the picture, it was very labor intensive. I had to de-construct a stock shift handle then fit it inside the wood handle.
Probably have 10-12 hours wrapped up in it.

The first one looks the best IMO. The other two just don't seem to go with the interior and as you said Extreme. It would also look better with Leather boot for sure

Sure why not.......I think I could get away with out the button too, where you just push the whole unit down...

I am actually going to get quotes on what these would cost from my Rapid prototype girl

Could be very interesting

That looks sweet! What did you use? Maple?

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, it's a piece of Quilted Maple stained with green aniline dye. I wish I could find some type of insert that would activate the plunger on the shift shaft. I've had several requests to make these but it is very labor intense to use the inner workings of the stock shift handle.

I think this would work with any wood, I showed a 2x4 (lol) ..secured from underneath with 2 screws. Will need to have a 7/8 bore thru the wood
button functions

Gonna get some quotes on Monday

I can get (3) of the plain assemblies to put wood on for $500.00

If I ordered more the price would have been less But I just want to try it out.

I tried modeling a wood piece, not that I could carve that...maybe mold it and hydro-dip
