Are the pistons and rods any different on the L99 than the LS3? If not, then all the major players have them...JE, Diamond, Wiseco, SRP, Lunati, Oliver, etc...

Also, you may look at forged LSX internals from GMPP.

if your going to change the rods and pistons, you might as well get a whole kit, crank rods, pistons and make it a stroker and add some displacement ,, you would have to have the new rods/pistons balanced to your stock crank anyways

How about a gm part #19170988 for the crank and and part #12603616 for a crank
And for the connecting rods we have from 6.0" to 6.2 " hear you go
6.000" # 19166964
6.100" # 19166965
6.125" # 19166966
6.150" # 19166967
6.200" # 19166968

The pistons are different. Or at least they have exhaust valve relief cuts in them. But the crank and rods out of the ls9 would work. Infact a ls9 is an ls3 with different crank rods and pistons....plus a supercharger.

if you went with aftermarket pistons they valve relief's wouldnt matter, the heads on the l99 and ls3 are the same, and the pistons would have the LS3 / l99 valve reliefs in them

really i just dont think the work needed to change just the rods and pistons and have the whole rotating assy re-balanced would be worth the labor, unless you gained some ci in the process

The rods on the ls9 are forged titanium Part #12624231

The l99 has valve reliefs due to VVT. The ls3 doesnt have relief, thus the higher compression ratio.

Any aftermarket piston should be available with valve reliefs...

Personally, I would look for pistons with larger reliefs, so I could run a cam with more lift, more duration, or with less phase limiting.
The VVT is a technology that has yet to be fully tapped
I’d probably look to supercharge as well, so the lower compression due to deeper reliefs would be ideal for me.
(i.e. forged with deap reliefs or dish for about 9/1 compression and more clearance for a better cam…30 degrees phase limiting perhaps?)
