Is your ZL1 an attention magnet also?

I've owned my ZL1 for a little over 2 months and I'm amazed at the amount of attention it draws everywhere I go. I'm frequently asked questions at gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops, work (ironically, haven't driven it to work, but coworkers know about it), at stop lights, etc. As a result, I've had to really read a lot more and brush up on ZL1 specifics because I got tired of saying "Well, I really don't know, I purchased it because I love the car" which isn't a bad answer but would rather be able to give more info about it when talking to car enthusiasts. I haven't run across a car enthusiast yet who trashed it, including GT500 owners. I've always displayed respect for other's cars even when parked beside them, maybe that has something to do with it.

A lot of the comments are from people who really don't appear to be car enthusiasts. When I purchased the car, I only expected conversations about it at car events but that only accounts for a small portion of generated interest. I've had people wanna take pictures with it including foreigners that spoke little to no English.

I've seen very few on the road. Actually, I've attended only one car event where there was another ZL1.

GM really hit a homerun with the ZL1 IMO and I'm looking forward to what spring and summer weather will bring since I'll be able to drive it more and attend more car functions.

I get a lot of questions as well - Mostly what is a ZL1? I've had several instances on the Interstate and at red lights where people take pics of it. Makes me feel GOOD! And you're correct GM Hit a Home Run with the ZL1!

Entering it in a local car show tomorrow...............

This. Ever since I bought my ZL1, I haven't noticed it getting any more attention than any other Camaro. I get attention when I drive the '67, however.

I usually get attention all the time. But it's filthy right now, not so much. I'll give her a bath and be right back in it.

Was at a small Cars and Coffee in my area this morning. One guy asked if it was my first choice when I was shopping. I told him yeah, that's what I set out to get. But honestly just since it's us Camaro guys talking, I was really holding out for Bugatti Veyron, but I didn't like the tail lights so I got a Camaro instead.

I really understand your concern on those tail lights , they are really funky and out off place

First off, I love the car. The first week that I got it I got 3 questions during one trip to the gas station. Since then, not much attention at all. Maybe a few guys in the lane next to me looking at it, pretending that they are not. I've actually been surprised by the pact of attention. All of my past BMW M3s got more attention. I think most people think the ZL1 is just a Camaro that has had aftermarket parts added to it. Maybe because my car is black it does not really stand out.

Conversely, when I was test driving the Shelby GT500 I had everyone looking at me. I guess the styling with the gaudy stripes and such is much more "in your face" than the ZL1. Personally, I prefer more low key anyway.

Even though the DC area is one of the wealthiest areas in the country and I've seen a Veyron, I have yet to see another ZL1 on the road. Go figure.

This is my situation as well. The basic shape of the 5th gen has been around a while now and they're pretty common. The only people that notice my ZL1 are car guys. A guy with a Z06 asked me a lot of questions once.

My '10 SS was another story. People were following me around, taking pictures and inquiring about the car all the time in the Summer of '09.

Here on the west coast in So Cal we see every type of automobile. Just drive thru Beverly Hills. It really depends on whom is next to you and if they are really into cars or just pretending to be. I have had the looks and pictures snapped in the past but less now. I do find it fascinating that a lot of people do know what a ZL1 actually is. Those that "just think it's a Camaro" are not into cars and will identify other brands the same way. Some people are really into all types of cars, I believe it really is "in the blood"! If you have ever seen the You Tube video of the 11 year old kid looking at the Pagani Huayra. He knew everything about the car!

I guess I'll find out once this weather clears. I've owned mine for 2-1/2 months and only driven it once.
