K&N Air Filter in Stock Air Intake Box vs CAI Comparisons

Just curious if anyone has done any comparisons between putting a K&N air filter in the stock box vs CAI? I bought a K&N filter to put in the stock air box when I bought my ZL1 last year until I did proper research on CAIs. Wondering if its worth the $400 for a Rotofab vs a regular K&N filter only. If its like the diff between 5-10HP not really worth it.

It all depends on what your looking for More power, sound, bling for your engine compartment ?

I have wondered this myself. I am not going racing, I just want something to make my engine breath alittle better.

I have looked into the SLP Air Intake Tube also but again $200.00 for 5-7HP HP.

I am on the fence post untill I get car out of storage then after looking at posts here and asking questions like yourself I will pull the plug.

Are you talking about just replacing the filter element, or a new CAI system?

If its just the element then honestly, who cares, I would not pay the 400 bucks, but that's just me.

There are other filter elements out there, but i have no experience with them because i changed my system from the gitgo.

For my money i would replace the whole thing with either ADM, or CAI Inc. CAI intake system....with the race scoop of course.....you'll notice a difference for sure!

The Roto-Fab is tried and true. It has been dyno tested with HP gains of 25-30 to the wheels! It's very easy to install, it gets rid of that big, clunky intake box and it really makes the supercharger whine! It's a good investment.

I don't know if this is right or not but I thought I read a thread if you use any other CAI filter other than a roto-fab it would throw a code? Is that true? I bought the carbon fiber inlet tube and the roto fab filter and it not only looks good it sounds good. A little pricey but everytime I put the pedal to the floor and hear the blower whine I don't think about what it cost!

This is all great info and all but I'm looking for some hard numbers.

Like:
Rotofab CAI has been shown to give you 25-30 RWHP increase while Replacing just the paper air filter in the stock air box with a K&N air filter in the stock airbox has been shown to give you only 15-20 RWHP increase.

again i ask are you looking for an element or complete system? imo the best way to go is a complete system i dont know of any side by side comps of element vs box

gotcha....i would be very skeptical of any HP gains stated by manufacturer on that one for sure..as you already are...but from what i know there is really nobody who will pay for a dyno run just to see hp gains on a air filter element so thats gunna be hard to come by

He's looking for a comparison between just putting a K&N filter inside his stock air box vs. changing the entire airbox and filter for something like the Rotofab or the CAI.
