Race scoop

I'm thinking of adding a race scoop to my intake but have a few questions. Is it necessary to move the ww bottle? How well do they work with other intake kits? Is it necessary to have a lid over the top of the filter?

Yes, the washer tank has to be removed to install the scoop. That is why the relocation kit is available. The scoop works with any intake that has an open bottom, which is almost all of them. Airaid is the only exception that comes to mind. The job of an air intake is to help you engine ingest a large quantity of cool dense air and that is exactly what the scoop will feed it. You do not have to have an intake with a lid for the scoop to be beneficial.

Add the scoop!
I held off quite a while after installing the CAI, was really concerned about water in intake during rain.
Once I took the plunge and installed the Apex Scoop I have experienced no water in intake issues.
More importantly, I perceive a greater performance increase adding scoop to CAI than I noticed going from factory intake to CAI. The factory windshield washer reservoir takes up a lot of space in the intake and may act as a restriction

Ordered my scoop/ww relocate kit from Apex Friday and received it Wednesday and the quality is TOP notch. Excited to get it installed before my tune on the 31st. Thanks Chase and Victoria at Apex for getting me taken care of.

I have the ADM with the scoop. I modified the factory bottle by taking 7 inches out of the middle and gluing it back together. Had to buy a cheap water tank to have material but it works fine. It fits inside the air box and comes through the top. Doesn't take up other space in the engine bay either.

That's cool and all but one of the benefits of the scoop is that it has a big opening to push air up through. With your water bottle still there, it blocks a big portion of that.

I have heard from some vendors and tuners that removing the ww tank is good enough by itself, so maybe this mod opens that up enough to give the intake access to the air coming from under the car as well as removing it does.

It is not going to accomplish the same thing. Removing the washer tank opens up the area below the intake but does nothing to direct air to it. Air flowing under the car will continue to flow under the car with out something to redirect it. On the other hand, the scoop mounts behind the lower grill where it scoops up cool air and forces it into the air box.

Pretty much. In order for water to get to the air box it would have to enter the scoop, negotiate a 45 degree corner, make a 90 degree turn upward, and then climb about 12 inches vertically. While the scoop does direct additional cool dense air flow into the intake it does not create a vacuum capable of doing all that. Water vapor condenses against the back wall of the scoop and is drained through weep holes in the bottom rear corners. The only way I can see forcing enough water into the intake to hydro lock it would be for you to hit standing water at least as deep as the DRLs and with a bit of speed. And if you do that you are going to have plenty of other problems to worry about.
