Callaway Supercharged Z/28 will be 652 HP.
That didn't take long: http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2014/4/1...52-HP-7719419/

Well, with a supercharger it will no longer be a Z/28. It is a shame that a fair number of our beloved Z/28's will be severely modified.

No reason to supercharge a Z/28 and mess up it's light weight and amazing balance, diminishing it's tracking ability. Throw a cam, longtube headers, high flow cats, a CAI and a tune on that bad boy and it would be unstoppable. Or just leave it stock, as it clearly is damned good straight from the factory.

Leave it stock if you are going to track it and/or you care about your powertrain warranty.
The Z/28 makes no sense to me unless you plan on it as a track car or if you are going to mothball it as an investment. In either scenario, forced induction is a bad idea. |

My plan is to track it stock for at least 6 months. Then if I believe I can go significantly faster with more HP/torque, I'll pull the stock motor and drop in a built LS427 (ERL or Mast Harrop). Put the original motor on a nice stand for the next owner to reinstall if he so wishes.

Part of the appeal of the Z/28 is the normally-aspirated LS7. Adding forced induction increases the heat load under the hood. I realize Callaway is good at this, but this is not a mod I'm interested in. I'm going to run mine for at least a season, then reevaluate over the winter. At most, I might consider some of the Katech mods...

....Is it a sacrilege or an abomination to do this to a Z/28?....I would think not, especially for a custom builder....Hasn't the LT4 gone super-charged for the Corvette?...Plus, I think we are looking at super-charged, forced induction, etc., as the thing of the future for our high-performance cars.... ....Perhaps Callaway will give us a good idea of what the Z/28 may look like not too long from now.... Just my $.02...........and if you think it's a bad idea, then the up-side would be an increase in value and rarity for those who stay original.....lol.. |

I'm not with Callaway on this; I was just posting the news. IMO (and apparently many others) a supercharger is not the way to go on the Z/28.
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should… |

Edit: The LS9 is a supercharged 6.2 liter. Not the 7.0 liter. Last edited by Bhobbs; 04-02-2014 at 01:27 PM. |

Agreed. Not something I would ever do to my Z/28

Anyone who has spent a lot of time on track will always choose n/a over FI given the choice. One of the reasons I'm not interested in the Z06 is Chebbie's migration to FI. IMO, a crappy development for the vette guys who track. Yeah, we'll see the death of n/a motors in performance cars down the road. It is happening now, with worldwide emissions tightening. For example, both Porsche and Ferrari are migrating to forced induction for their next generations. Sucks. |

Having driven numerous 427 Convertibles and Z06 Corvettes w/ the Callaway SC652, I think it's a great idea. I can't wait to drive one of these, next ...will it be 2014, or do I have to wait for 2015 |
