First day at track yesterday....

So,
Yesterday was the first time I've taken my SS to the track, overall was disappointed with myself, granted I still had car seat, stock tires, and trunk full of shit, I don't think it would have made that much of a diff. But i had a major issue on the first run and going to call the dealership tomorrow.
First run: 22.89@83- No traction control, left at 3300rpms, slipped clutch a tad and hammered it, well....clutch pedal stuck to floor to about 1000ft mark then i got it off with my foot.

Second run- all traction controls on, babied off the line because of paranoia, 13.4@109 with a SHITTY 60' 2.272, reaction was .732. My 60 killed me. I was so worried about the clutch sticking, I probably shouldn't have made that second run but drop over hour and half to the track. We went for a wedding and I decided hey, why not i'm here.

any ideas on the clutch?

you should have installed a separate clutch reservoir from gen5diy and cleaned the fluid literally every few thousand miles AS IT DOES MATTER. I have seen the darkened fluid I have taken form my separate reservoir and am glad it does not share with the brakes as both are off parts that generate heat and the clutch more contamination ...... that's my thought.

I heard somewhere about a TSB that clutch pedal getting stuck and not depressing. Not sure what model years but I would talk to your dealer about it.

No experience, m6, and stock tires a 2.2 isn't as horrible as you make it out to be. It's something you get better at with practice and then mods

Yes...get you a clutch reservoir and make sure to change it out with DOT4 before you go to the track every time.

Going easy off the line is about the only way you can do it with street tires.

Old dirty fluid really kills the performance of the clutch. Listen to what they said, also look into the LP clutch return spring. Your gonna need all the help you can get, as you can see I run a th400 now. I had all kinds of problems at the track, always seemed fine on the street untill I did a burnout at the track. Seems like its heat related, cooler days I would less problems. I did manage to run 1.9 with 1.87 60ft on street tires with the m6, but always had a 1-2 high rpm shift issue.

Anytime the pedal sticks just abort the run.

The clutch sticking is a common issue due to dirty fluid. The best fix is one of our Clutch reservoir separation kits, Lingenfelter Clutch return spring, Tick Clutch line and keeping the fluid clean.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Clean fluid helps a lot but I hate return springs mainly because the pedal sticking to the floor isn't the pedals fault, the pedal does what the pressure plate does. When the pressure plate sticks then the pedal has not choice to not come up. If keeping clean DOT4 fluid in a remote rezzy doesn't fix your problem then starting shopping for a clutch. I flush my fluid every oil change which is every 5k miles. I don't just empty the rezzy and refill. Mine still sticks if pushed hard on a sticky track but then again Im 200hp over stock on the stock clutch lol.
Another thing that helps is to not come off the floor at the line, you want the clutch just shy of moving the car. This way the pressure plate has a less likely chance of sticking in mid swing.

I tried keeping the clutch just before it grabs myself. It made it worse, would stick every time! Personally I think the manual and gearing sucks in these cars, it just does not work well at the drags. I went from 12.30s to 11.7 and my th400 is way more under geared, just hiting 3rd before the stripe. Next time out I will probably be 11.5s and still need to fix my 1-2 short shift. Best thing I ever did to this car was dump that pos!

There's nothing wrong with the manual tranny and rear gearing. #1 issue is the clutch GM put in these cars.

thanks for the replies, 61k miles, and I'm looking into all suggestions on this forum, as the dealership said 600 just to look at it, check for abuse, then get back to me on warranty.

First thing to do is the clutch reservoir. Start off looking here:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...light=resivoir

Get a kit from JDP or Gen5Diy. Change out the fluid every time you get ready to go to the track and then at your oil change intervals. Use DOT4 fluid. This alone will help out more than you think and it's relatively cheap/easy mod to do.

When you change out your clutch add a remote bleeder and the Tick clutch line. The remote bleeder will allow you to flush out more fluid.

Also consider adding a line lock if you do any kind of a burn out at the track. That will help keep you from heating up the clutch.
