Insurance question

I was not sure what forum this should go in, so feel free to move it if I am guessing wrong.

I have insurance through State Farm, with ALL the discounts, full coverage costs me $46/month for the Camaro.

Question: Am I obligated to tell the agent that my car is now supercharged? If I get in an accident, will all the new mods not be covered?

The flipside of that is, if I do tell him about the new mods, will my rates go up?

What do you guys do about this situation?

Insurance will only cover the cost of the OEM parts. If you want the new parts covered, they have to be written into your policy (assuming State Farm offers that service). Aside from additional replacement cost, Mods shouldn't affect your rates.

The only person that can answer your question is your agent. Every agent is different even if they are the same company. For example I have State Farm as well and my agent will cover any mod (but not labor and tunes) as long as I tell them when I install it and keep the receipt of purchase but your State Farm agent may be different. Some agents will not cover performance enhancing mods as all and will drop you when they find out. Others require you to buy an extra policy.

If you're afraid of what they may say, instead of telling them that you have a super charger, tell them you plan on getting one soon and want to know what you need to do to have it covered.
