Calls from dealer for trade in

Anyone else getting calls, many of them, from the dealer asking if you want to trade in your Camaro?

I have a '12, and I'm getting them all the time. They state there's such a high demand for my model that they can offer above the book value for mine...not even much asked about it as far as miles and stuff.

Just wondered if it was just me or if they maybe have slumped in sales on the transition '14 model and everyone still likes the older one better.

I just get generic mailers. Funny how a Camaro is in 'high demand' during a NY winter . Doubt it.

What they really want , it's you in the show room
Then they will sale you the car that they have siting in there for a ( special ) price
That's all there is to it
If no one comes in , they won't sell anything

It is a technique to sell cars used by some dealerships to increase sales, nothing more.

I have too.

I broke their heart though. I informed them that I would need well over low-book to even consider trading my baby in.

Then I was very specific about what I wanted.

He hasn't called back.

It's not just Camaros. I used to get the same pitch from the dealer that sold me my previous Impala. As stated above, they just want to get you into the showroom and try to generate the buying urge in you!

Yup. It's a common practice among dealerships of all makes.

Used cars are always in high demand, especially if they get you into a new one in exchange.

Most dealers make more money on used cars than new, so if you trade in your car towards a new one then not only do they get the sale of a new car but then have a nice used car on the lot to reap in huge profits. Win/win for them.

I got one of those letters it said my 2011 Camaro was highly desirable. Actually they are right it's highly desired by me. Everyone is right it's just a sales technique.

+1. Business is Business. Whatever it takes to get you in the door is what it's all about.

And it may be true, but there are some questions to be answered. What is "book value?" Whose book? Give you a fantastic trade as long as you buy or lease something that more than makes up the difference. If you're happy then I guess that's a good sale. Actually, from the seller's view just about any sale is a good sale.

Good luck!
