rev limiter
On the corvette's you could turn the rev limiter off (fuel pump cutoff switch)
how do you do it on the the LS3? My dealer said to hold down the stabilizer switch for 10 secs, you would see the off light on the dash,I did that but the rev limiter is still on,got dusted by a hemi, when the fuel pump cut off switch engaged and the engine died before letting off the throttle and it fired back up,too late the hemi was gonnnne!!! |

Wow. The "stabilizer switch?"
And why do you suppose the rev limiter is there? Yeah...shift! John B.

Of course, your rev limiter is there to protect your engine from over revving.
Your saying that you're losing races because you're hitting the rev limiter and the fuel is cutting out? If that's the case, you need to learn how to shift your car at the appropriate time so you don't hit the rev limiter (problem solved). You can have your car tuned to raise the limiter a bit, but you'll still need to pay attention to your tach as to not hit it. |

First off, don't race on the street !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second, learn to shift before you blow up your engine. The rev limiter is there for a reason, to keep you from over reving a stock motor !

Hello everyone. Have a question I hope fits in this thread. I am having my Camaro imported to Germany. The German importer offered to match my car to German autobahn standards. He is asking 1,000.00 Euros for this. Now, I only want the speed governor removed, because I do plan on going back to the US some day. Is there a chip out there, of a OBD programmer that can do this for me, and allow me to turn the speed governor back on when I return to the states. Passing a car on the autobahn just to have the car shut off can be quite dangerous. Thank you guys.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. That is exactly what the German Importeur would do for 1,000.00 Euros. I just think that it is a little high. Does anyone know at what speed the governor kicks in on the new Camaro? I am driving my Firebird right now and I found out the hard way.
I was heading south on A81 past herrenberg where the speed restriction is lifted. I was passing a car and the Firebird hit I believe 120 MPH when all of a sudden it jerked. Fortunatley this Audi behind me was paying attention and wasn't tailgaiting. He did pass me though with flashing lights and throwing his fist. One angry German. But I suppose it is my fault. I guess I should stay in the right lane with all the trucks. LOL. So if anyone knows of a cheaper way to bypass the speed governor, let me know. Thanks. |

Back to the original post - LOL. Did you just expect to win the race if you coulda just stayed in first gear until 11,000 rpm? You didn't lose because of the rev limiter. Like the others said- you need to shift.
Not that I wish ill on any cam owner, but woulda been ironic if your payout for street racing was a blown motor at 7500rpm. Please don't street race. I'm an ER doc and I regularly see the result. |

You need to learn the characteristics of the car. The car is not at fault, it is doing exactly what it is supposed to. The Camaro has a hard rev limiter. i.e. It basically shuts off the engine.
Know that the car (and the tach) are accelerating and shift with that in mind. Each car will be slightly different. On my L99 if I initiated the shift at around 5700 rpm, the actual shift occurred just before the limiter kicked in and the car continued rapid acceleration with no lag. The max area under the curve for these motors is between 4300/4500 (L99/LS3) and 5900 rpm. Rpm past this area results in SLOWER times (other than taking into account the rotating inertia "over-rev" to get you back to the fat part of the curve). |
