My First Small Appearance Mods / 1/4 Flares and Gill Fade Vinyl

Well I spent a couple hours bonding with my new ride late today. With only 75 Miles (Freakin' Rain), i decided to put the 1/4 Flares (Mud Flaps) on the car. I was debating on these for a while because I like the clean appearance of the car without them, but after driving ONLY 75 Miles (and doing a detail spray so I can put the cover back on) I realized how much crap kicks up the Rocker panels and lower doors and rear bumper. I think all in all the look is pretty cool and they are ultra functional on this car. They took about 2 hours to do, from beginning to end. Read below for a few tips and notes about 1/4 flare install that may help ahead of time.

I also put on these faded vinyls I got from autotrimdesign.com. I am very happy with the way they look. They really ad depth to the look of the gills. You really cannot tell they are vinyl from more than 4 feet away. See pics below to compare. They only took about 20 minutes to install and fit nicely.

NOTES ON 1/4 Flares:

- Make sure to clean paint well with degreaser / alcohol.
- No need to remove tires, but it would make the rear easier
- No need for a lift or jack, but without lifting at all good luck drilling the rear screws on the front pair (I did not use these screws, they were VERY Strong without them. If you drive in the snow, I would not skip these front flap underbody screws)
- You may need to open the 2 tabs on the front ones in order to hook under metal lip
- Be careful, when replacing the two screws you remove to install the front set, it is very hard to get them back in. You have to align the holes in the flaps, black well plastic and the rocker panels........tricky!
- When removing the adhesive (via the clear tab provided) be careful not to pull too hard or the plastic backing will break.
- DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN SCREWS!
- READ DIRECTION ALL THE WAY THROUGH BEFORE YOU START!!

Enjoy the pics!

Yeah, like IOM stripes would look good on the SIM.

hmm...maybe once the rain drys up you could get some shots farther away from the car with the whole car in view? Front, side, 3/4 back, and then back? Would really appreciate it! I'd have to see the additional pics, but I don't think these look all too bad, and make your car unique.

I really like the faded gill decal. I just think the upper edge of the decal is the wrong angle.

I love the faded gill stripes too! That's probably going to be at the top of my mod list when I get the car.

I agree that the gill angle is odd, but that is how the metal is pressed. The Vinyl fits dead on the pressed in area.

Is there anyway to trim it to the correct angle?

X-acto knife.

And I can back up Xmicro_SS; that's the way the metal is pressed. So, technically, it is at the correct angle but feel free to cut it so that the decals appear the way you think the gills should have been pressed into the body.
