Amp recommendations - Crutchfield doesn't know!
I want to replace my amp, called Crutchfield to Get some advice, they don't have the info on the 2014 camaro yet. Suggestions for amps? I will be getting the FARK so it's easily instalation, need a 4 channel amp for it. I will probably be adding a sub later so that might play a part in deciding what amp.
Thanks guys!! |

2014 BA is not much different than a 2010 BA, so it's plain to see there are better qualified experts than crutchfield. Many of us, myself included, are using the jl xd 400/4. I've recently had a few guys use the alpine and rockford amps alternatively and had very good success with those, but I don't remember the model #s offhand.

Do the 400/4 and if you want to do a sub later you can get the sub and an amp for the sub

The Alpine PDR-F50 and the JL XD400/4 are both great amps if you plan to mount in the stock amp location. I have both and both are great very clean with great clarity and stereo separation, the Alpine does have much tighter bass due to a greater damping factor of >500 vs >150 on the JL. I do not think you will be disappointed with either. If I was mounting in a different location other than the stock location, I would go with the JL HD600/4 or the Alpine PDX-F6. I actually purchased both amps (Alpine PDR-F50 and the JL XD400/4) from Crutchfield.

amp suggestion
I asked around on the forum before pulling the trigger on a jl audio 400/4 and couldn't be happier... using the fark harness and ******** amp board... it was a breeze... I also did a jl 600/1 for a jl audio stealth box (single 12)and ran a remote base knob to the steering column... Also replaced the door speakers with jl c5 650's.... haven't touched the back deck speakers yet as it sounds good... and replacing rears will only yield minimal returns.. It sounds as good as my truck or better ... that I spent several thousand dollars.. tweaking..

Phew that JL audio XD 400/4 is a hefty price at $419.99, but it seems well worth it by the reviews everyone is giving.

If you are going to put a sub in get the 700/5, you will save a few bucks and have the 300 watts for a 2 ohm woofer when you are ready.
Fits in the stock location, it can't get any easier than that. |

I've done my car and three others, most recently a new 2014 2SS/RS and all functions were retained.

it all depends on your budget.
JL makes nice amps/speakers. IMO if your budget allows then there are many more that are way better sounding. audison is one. |

I totally agree with you on that. Due to the limited mounting space in the stock location, which is where most of us desire to mount we are kinda limited to the jl xd series or the new alpine pdrf-50 just released for 2014 which between the two, both are good but the new Alpine is definitely better, being that I have both. If you opt to mount somewhere else then there are much better choices and Audison is definitely amoung the cream of the crop.
