Need advice.. Metra/tablet/single din unit install
So I got my hands on a Metra kit from a fellow camaro owner here in Atlanta. He had this running in his car, but did not have full access/controls to steering wheel and bluetooth when he did it.
Let me explain the setup... 1. Metra dash kit. 2. Single din unit 3. 7" tablet I'm trying to do the same, but i don't want to lose any functionality of the stock setup... ie steering wheel controls, bluetooth functionality, etc. The picture attached is what it looks like. He modded the dash kit by adding a swivel door to it, added velcro, and thats how he mounts the tablet. The single din unit is hidden behind the door. All you would need to do is swivel/rotate the door, and you would have the unit right there so you can see the display, change stations, change volume, etc. Essentially, the reason i don't want to go the traditional route of getting a double din/full screen unit is because I dislike the user interface on just about all of them, and lets face it... you can do more with a tablet (stream music, web browse, gps, etc). So for you experts out there, can you point me in the right direction of getting this project done properly without the loss of stock functionality? And which single din unit would you recommend? I do have the BA system, and I also have 2X12 subs with their own amp in the trunk. This picture shows the metra kit currently mounted in MY car. I painted it to much the interior, and I wanted to see how it looked. I removed the stock face, but left the cd/brains of the unit still in place. Everything still works like this, and i would totally leave it like this, except i can't see what radio station i'm on, nor see the time or whatever else you would normally see on the display. And because the unit is so big, i can't rotate the door to access the cd tray. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! |

I helped a guy put in a Dell Venue 8 tablet in his Camry a couple months ago, and he used a Joycon EXR for steering wheel interface.
I built a carpc for mine. -Robert

dang. that is awesome...I was thinking just the other day that I'd like to mount a tablet in place of my '11 radio, but that appears to be a serious pain in the a$$, so I think I'll pass
