LFX "Bore and Hone"???

Has anyone attempted going oversize on their pistons? if so what other modifications did you have to do to get the engine running properly?

does it decrease my compression ratio?

or just keep it the same?

i understand that my CI changes but what will it actually affect

i also can seem to find oversized pistons for the LFX im assuming i would have to get custom one

thanks!

i might just be talking crazy

Haven't heard of anyone doing this to an LFX yet.....

Compression ratio is determined by the pistons themselves, so you buy 10:1 11:1 etc CR pistons. We had a thread about this going... Mr Jacfab has theoretical knowledge on this actually. However yes, I believe you would need custom pistons.

We've been discussing boring/stroking the LFX in this thread. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347964

There is some interesting information there.

I don't know how thick the stock sleeves are on the LFX, if it's anything like the LS1 you can't bore them out very far at all without resleeving. Darton Sleev makes a set of sleeves that would work with the LFX, which would allow a max bore of 98mm which would take you up to a 3.9L...

Either way you go about doing something internally to gain displacement it's going to be expensive... The darton sleeves are ~$1800 not including installing them. If you want to do any kind of stroker affair via offset grinding, etc plan on custom rods, I was quoted ~1350 for 6 rods... Custom pistons either way. Going to a bigger piston would increase the compression ratio...

There is some good discussion in the link that GretchenGotGrowl posted above, but in the end, you'd have to REALLY be a dedicated 6 cylinder fan to drop that kind of money on doing anything major like this. I'd love to see someone do it, but I think I will just be going down the forced induction route myself.

I thought you were going to go Dr Evil on that engine you picked up? Are you instead going to throw forced induction on it?

I'm currently collecting LF3 parts to do some sort of forced induction setup...

I'm still researching random routes I could take, but if you do the math hp per $$ a guy would most likely to be better of to just go forced induction.

Rough guess, a guy would be looking at appx $3500 +-500 to sleeve the block, bore it to 98mm and have custom pistons made assuming no labor cost for engine disassembly, or reassembly.

How much of a power gain could a guy really expect for spending all that $ just to gain .3 of displacement. You'd get a little compression ratio bump from the bigger bore (could get more or less if the dome on the pistons were changed of course), but I think the hp diff would be negligible just from that.

A bit off topic, but still on the topic of n/a power.....a guy called LMR and they claimed 40rwhp with just a ported head job on an LFX

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322763

But we haven't heard anything out of them in a long time so its likely the project died. Would still be an expensive project....except possible for someone like Jacfab here who could maybe do the whole thing themselves lol.

Thanks for the vote of confidence... However, I lack necessary machinery to install sleeves, bore, offset grind cranks, regrind cams, etc etc... Figure in another 2-3k for these magical unicorn heads that will pick up 40hp, on top of the sleeves, custom pistons, rods, etc etc etc... I bet a guy could easily wrap up 10k on this kick ass v6... Not a place where I want to allocate that kind of coin at the moment.
