Glove box sagging on the right side
My glove box starts off with a good fit and then sags on the right side after you drive some. It is quite noticeable gap when you open the passenger door. It may be that the latch was slightly bent at the factory. Other people had complained about it at my dealership, so they are looking for a way to fix it. They looked at all of the Camaros on there lot and only 6 of them did not have this issue. Anyone else have this problem?

Hey wadewatkins3,
I can see how this problem with your glove box would be frustrating. It sounds like you are already working with your dealership, but if you would like this documented within our system for future reference, please send us a PM and we can discuss the concern further. Have a great day, Austin J. (Assisting) Chevrolet Customer Care |

sounds like the cheap elastic "cable" they use to retract the glove box broke.. mine did within the first month of ownership.
the dealership replaced it for me, but the glove box has had to be slammed (hard) to close and stay closed since.. doesn't bother me as I don't use it, I do not keep anything in the console or the glove box being I have a convertible.

You mean the glovebox door, right?

well technically it is the box, as it isn't a door that hides a stationary box, but rather a box and door in one.

Unless the door and glove box are physically the same part, yes it can sag independently of the glove box just like your front door could sag if the hinges were loose. You might not need to replace the front door frame, you might need to tighten a hinge or replace a hinge pin. For example, in the car, the door could be cracked near the hinge.
Good luck with your problem, Wade.

you are aware that the glovebox in the Camaro is an all in one (i.e. physically the same part) design, and there is no way to tighten the hinge as it is nothing more than a molded plastic part that snaps together right? there is no frame (the molded dash board is the frame) there is no door the box/door is one piece. it is a single piece of molded plastic. the sagging isn't a result of a crack, it is a poor design where in one side of the box is heavier than the other, because the "door" part of the box overhangs on one side and not the other. So to combat the issue GM put a little piece of elastic string on the passenger side that takes the slack of the off balanced weight, and if said string breaks (or more correctly the plastic attachment that holds the string to the box breaks) then the box sags on the right side, because it is off balance due to the design of said box and the location of the plastic snap hinge which are not evenly centered on either side of the box. all in one design, no separate compartment and door: ![]() plastic snap hinge, no hinge pin to tighten or replace: ![]() saggy door/box: ![]() instead of a nice cleanly closed box: ]caused by this being broken or dislodged:

I had this problem about a week ago on my 2014 (has 1650miles). I noticed it when I was driving, my passenger got it to latch. I'm gonna look at it a little more after work today.

While my car was being serviced to have the struts replaced, they fixed the glove box! What they found was the dash assembly bracket was welded improperly, so they bent the the bracket to the proper position and now it fits like a glove, no pun intended!

Resurrecting this thread with incredible information as my glove box is sagging on the right side also.
Checked the cable/string thingy and seems to be intact, maybe just stretched a bit or something. Next trip to the dealer I will bring it up and see what they can do to help it out. |
